Romero had a couple doubles, last night, but I Campbell blew the lead by allowing 3 in the 9th.

I gotta think I Campbell's time is BOS is limited, despite the promise he showed a few years ago w SEA.

Seems to be an easy offseason DFA. Has just not worked out here.

Roman has that heavy ground ball profile too. He doesn't have that ceiling, but I wouldn't get too worked up about the ground ball rate just yet.

Agreed!  I do not think anybody in our system has a Roman Anthony type ceiling. Guys like Anthony are rare.

Somebody said Perales is out of options, next year, so there would be some issues, if he's not ready for the bigs. (I guess he could start on the IL.)

soxprospects.com has him with 2 options remaining.

Anybody know about this?

Next year is his last option year. It says "2" because it includes this year as one of the current years. FanGraphs says the same.

Good to know. This way he can stay in AAA as long as needed.

Maybe he ends up in the pen, but they probably start him at Woo.

Soxprospects.com projects this:

MLB: Crochet, ______/Giolito, Bello, Sandoval, Harrison (kinda puzzling) w Criswell in the MLB pen.

Crawford & Dobbins are listed as "Inactive."

AAA: Tolle, Fitts, Early, Uberstine, Drohan & PB Starters: Perales, Jack Anderson & Isaac Coffey w Sandlin & Mullins in the AAA pen.

They project the AA rotation as Holobetz, Wehunt, Paez, Clarke & Aita (E Rivera) w Dean & Rogers in the AA pen.

A+: Valera, Fajardo, Witherspoon, Phillips, Eyanson, Tygart & Neely (That's 7)

A-: Travieso, J Bello, Y Ruiz, M Patton, D Brown, B Morgan

Inactives: Monegro, Duffy, Judice & C Cason

Something has to give: some will be moved to the pen, but some may be traded.

Campbell went 0-4 w 4 Ks. He did walk once, which is better than Romero's 0-5 night.

The Wooster's lost 8-7 in 10. Their record is now 74-73.

Giolita hit the 140 inning mark and he will be a free agent

I am not sure I would count on Sandoval,

After the Paxton, Hendriks and others I can't even remember, I should give up on Sandoval. I kinda liked the signing, back when. I think he is pretty good, if healthy. Maybe, just once, we'll get one of those type signings right.

On the plus side, if Sandoval pitches well, that is a huge plus for 2026!

However if Sandoval turns into another paxton, we are going to need another quality starter!

trade makes a lot of sense since we have a ton of depth. Is there another crochet deal to be made this offseason???

My general feeling is that FA SP'er signings are almost always gross overpays, 2-3 years too long and often for pitchers past prime and or about to face a serious injury. Signing everyday players seems safer.

Trading for SP'ers seems safer. Maybe I'm biased after watching deals work well, like for Crochet, Sale, Beckett, Schilling and Pedro, but I thin this should be the plan:

1. Trade for a solid #2 type pitcher, even if Gio stays.

2. Sign a big bat like Alonso, Schwarber or Suarez. (Tucker would mean we trade 2 OF'ers.)

I'm not sure Bregman counts as a big bat, but keeping him along with adding one of the 3-4 listed above would be nice. Other secondary additions, instead of Bregman could be: Naylor, Hoskins, Bichette, Torres and maybe Ozuna, Bellinger, Grisham, Arraez (only because he can play 1B & 2B) or Caratini to replace Wong.

Today is the end of the AAA and minor league regular season.

Woo is 75-73 and are up in their game today.

POR ended 64-71.

GRE ended 66-66

SAL ended 56-74

FCL 25-34

DSL: Blue 32-22/ Red 25-30

Woo ended the season with a 9-8 win.

Sandlin, Song and I Campbell all ended their seasons with a bad game.

Guerrero pitched a scoreless inning. I'm not sure he gets a late call-up.

Hickey homered, Sikes & Ferguson had 3 hits each. Romero had 2 hits and ended at ,745. Jh Garcia 0-2 and ended at .832.

Considering all the rookie call-ups, WOO did okay.

I Campbell threw the last inning, gave up 2 H, 2 BB, 2 Earned Runs.

And yet, according to baseball scoring rules, he saved the game.

With pitchers like that, who needs belly itchers?

We have quite a few 40 man roster guys that have done almost everything possible to show they don't belong on it.

Be a shame to leave them exposed to the Rule X draft -- it's a new draft where teams pick players that are original clubs are then forced to keep.

LOL.

We have some work cut out for us, once the season ends. We currently have 50 players on the 40, since 10 are on the 60 Day IL.

4 players will be FAs: Refsnyder, Wilson, Matz & May.

4 have various forms of options: Bregman (opt out) Giolito (Mutual Option) and Story (opt out.) Hendriks will not get his team option. My guess is just Story will remain under team control.

That means 7 from 50 =43 for a 40 Man roster before Rule 5 choices are made.

The Lowe choice might be a hard one. He is in his last arb year that could get him between $8-11M. We may just non tender him. I think we keep Moran, Sogard and Eaton around.

I don't think keeping the out-of-options Hicks on the 40 is a good idea, but I think they stuck with him this long, he will get a shot in ST'ing to make the 26.

That leaves these guys to cut or trade to get from 43 to 40, plus for every Rule 5 guy we keep, one needs to go.

Grissom

I Campbell

DHam

Murphy

Wong (We'd need to add a catcher.)

We could also try to pull off a pre-Rule 5 trade that involves 2-3 players for 1. Talk of trading an OF'er has been going on for over a year.

@moonslav59, you asked about Perales's option years remaining. Chris Hatfield said on the recent pod that he currently has 1 option year remaining for next season BUT there's a chance that he could earn a 4th option year for 2027. He didn't go into detail about it, but it would be because of the TJS that prevented him from being added to a roster as he's essentially rehabbing right now. The rule per mlb.com is:

Players typically have three option years, but those who have accrued less than five full seasons (including both the Major and Minors) are eligible for a fourth if their three options have been exhausted already. For the purposes of this rule, spending at least 90 days on an active Major League or Minor League roster during a given season counts as one full season. Players also earn a full season if they spend at least 30 days on an active Major League or Minor League roster AND their active-roster and injured-list time amounts to at least 90 days in a given season.

Thanks. I'm glad we can have him start in AAA, next year. Another option year would be even better!

He  (sandoval) goes in a category with Dobbins, Kutter Craw, Criswell, Weisert, Fitts, Harrison in the competing for a 4 or 5 SP

I would rate Tolle and Early slightly higher in the "one is prob going to make the rotation" category.

I guess Sandoval could go in either. Maybe this

In this category, if healthy will be in the rotation
Crochet
Bello

In this category, 1-2 pitchers should make MLB rotation
Early, Tolle, Sandoval

In this category, may make the rotation, depending on who we resign/acquire/injuries but theyll have to earn it
Kutter Craw, Dobbins, Criswell, Wissert, Fitts, Harrison

*Not advocating for no pitching acquisitions, would love to see them bring Gio back.  In which case, Early, Sandoval, Tolle most likely to round at rotation, with next group behind them and some of the "did not make it into the rotation" will go to minors and some to pen

Weissert will not be considered for a rotation slot. (Was that a typo?) Wink might have one last shot, but he's better in the pen.

I see it like this: if healthy...

Locks: Crochet, Bello

His to lose: Sandoval

Just don't look awful in ST'ing: Early

Equal shots at the 5 slot: Dobbins, Crawford, Tolle & Harrison

Extended depth (would have to WOW! in ST'ing) Criswell, Perales

Minor League depth with a longshot: Uberstine, Mullins, Drohan, Holobetz, Clarke, Paez, Aita, Witherspoon, Phillips, Valera, Fajardo

I like the breakdown.  But what if we sign Gio. Or what if we get Gio and Ryan.

Then Early has to go out and win it, and Sandoval becomes a dont look awful in ST.

So I guess, if we acquire 1-2 good SP, then everyone after the "locks" category moves down one slot.

So lets add that asterisk (if you dont mind) and seal it on a virtudal handshake, which i guess would be a nod at the screen
