Still a clueless play by O’Neill.

Infield fly is called. Just go to first base ASAP…

Actually, a heads up play by Turner. He ran right into O’Neill’s path.

Interesting. Could O'Neill been doubled off after the infield fly was called, a catch made and Tyler did not get back to first. I do not know the full rule but invoking the infield fly should be equivalent of time out, no further play until reset.

O'Neill has been blundering on D, too, recently.

Unfortunately the right one…

I agree it's probably right call, but it's also catch-22 for the Sox baserunner because, if he doesn't get back to 1b, he can be doubled up. The infield fly rule says the batter is out whether the ball is caught or not, but he doesn't give the baserunners any license on baserunning. They must tag up if the ball is caught.

What a chicken s*** call.

Exactly the right phrase. Right call, but definitely chicken s***. It's especially nasty because the ball was in fact caught which meant O'Neill had to get back to 1b. In fact, Turner was blocking O'Neill, not vice versa.

I must have missed the post where you said Cora should take Bello out after 6 innings.

He should’ve been taken out after he walked the number nine hitter on a non-competitive pitch. Instead, he left him in to face a guy who had already hit a home run off of him who then got single. Luckily, Sims was able to get out of it.

Yep. Like I said, a heads play by Turner. Guy’s a pro’s pro.

Yes, absolutely, if the ball is caught, both baserunners must tag up. The infield fly rule was written to prevent infielders from dropping the popup intentionally and then throwing both baserunners out. Turner simply found a way to get the double play by manipulating the umpire into calling interference.

And I don’t always have time to sit and constantly post about things as I am watching a game. Just because I didn’t post it doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t have happened. It certainly should’ve happened after he walked the number nine hitter on a non-competitive pitch and he was close to 100 pitches. He’s also not gone longer than 6 2/3 innings.

Agree. Wasn't it a Dodger who as a baserunner would break up double plays by simply fielding the grounder? That's what led to the rule that doing that intentionally makes the baserunner and the hitter outs.

You just don't get it, do you? This was almost Bello's best game this season at a time when the bullpen has reeked of incompetence. Moreover, I trust Cora and his pitching coach Bailey's judgments a whole lot more than yours.

Also, did you not notice that Seattle did not in fact score?

Not always. I’ve seen instances where umps haven’t awarded first on that call.

I haven't seen that, but I agree with any umpire that made that call.

Don’t know about fielding the grounder (sounds like a once in a lifetime happenstance) but I certainly could see allowing yourself to get hit by a batted ball to break one up.

I get it fine. He left him in one batter too long and it resulted in first and third and one out. Luckily for Cora, Sims bailed him out.
