I will admit, I was happier with the “1” than the “10”. Any contract can go sour, but the ones that go sour and disappear immediately are much less detrimental…

If he pitched the 3rd game of the year rather than the first, I think Kluber would be more easily forgotten. Cora did Sale a favor by having him pitch the 2nd game, but it threw Kluber under the bus.

No. Kluber was disastrous. Not like we ever forgot and forgave Eric Gagne…

David Murphy would have sat on the bench for a few years and never reached his potential in BOS. Kason Gabbard didn't do anything after leaving.

Gagne: 3.03 FIP

Having 3 games blow up on him in 2 months is just bad luck.

It didn’t help that he was acquired to be a closer but instead wound up pitching games in which the Sox trailed or had big leads…

Gagne was acquired to be "supporting closer" to Papelbon or something like that.

Sox fans are amazing in that they still grouse about that trade even though the Sox won their second ring in 4 years.

It barely comes up. But what is the criteria for complaining?

Paplebon at the trade deadline: 23 S, 2.15 ERA, 2.87 FIP, 12.93 k/9

Gagne at the trade deadline: 16 S, 2.16 ERA, 3.03 FIP, 10.6 k/9

Gagne wasn't to be the primary closer.

You can freely complain in game threads. You can complain as needed in other threads, but don't overdo it or you'll be labelled a malcontent.

A malcontent? I still like Yoshida and haven’t written off Grissom yet. And I never hated on Yorke and still like Mayer…

Gagne will serve as Papelbon's primary set-up man and will close

on days Papelbon needs rest.

"We actually love our bullpen," Boston manager Terry Francona

said of his relievers, who have the lowest ERA (2.74) in the

majors. "I think it just got a lot better. Papelbon, Okajima and

Gagne -- these are guys that you don't match up. You just let them

pitch really good baseball."

Shortly after acquiring Gagne, Boston announced that reliever

Brendan Donnelly will have season-ending surgery on his right

elbow.

"Eric wanted to be in a playoff environment," Boras said. "He

has respect for Papelbon, and I'm sure Papelbon has respect for

him. While he won't be a full-time closer there, it was an

opportunity to win."

Yeah but you're practically in the WTF Cora Club...

Sorry, not really sure what the question is.

He's found that he's started to like Old Red and Madstork posts and he wants to know more about the dark arts.

I do have mixed emotions on him, primarily due to his disingenuous activities in Houston…

Just one Mad Stork post. I filed it under “Blind Squirrel”…

That I totally understand. It's actually kind of amazing the Red Sox brought him back and have now extended him for big dough. Henry must really like him.

Especially when I read “Cheated” by Andy Martino. According to him, Cora was way more involved than I realized. He practically was the scandal. Hinch was an innocent bystander…

I don't think you can say anyone was innocent there. You need a lot of people to stay quiet to pull off something like that.

File it under you misunderstood his post.

Randy did NOT say Yorke would not make it in the bigs: he said "with the Sox."

Well, you know where Martino got his info from then.

I interpreted that to be among the “can’t hack it in Boston” BS…

A big boss businessman just likes finding ways to beat the system.

One told me personally he loved how one simple bench coach took an intricate system devised by an organization's entire analytics department and decoded all the signs of 29 other teams... and then when they all changed their signs -- because that's what intelligent ballclubs do, constantly -- this one simple coach stayed up every night studying video, so he could keep cracking those codes, all by himself!

This owner was so enthralled, he got drunk once on the return flight from a road trip and shouted: "I wanna make a toast -- to dis ingenius!"

Hinch knew it was going on and did not stop it. He was the manager. At worst, he'd tied for most responsible with anyone else. If Hinch said stop, it stops.

I was surprised how many Astro players were against it. According to Martino, Altuve, for example, got mad at anyone who banged the garbage can during his plate appearances.

And let’s not forget the whole scandal came to light when one player blew the whistle…

Might it have meant there is just too much competition at LF/2B?

If it was about the "not hacking BOS," I agree that is and always has been BS.

And Hinch was punished. But he was allegedly far from complicit…
