Remind me again, Weissert is the answer to what need ?

He fills the 5th-6th spot in the pen okay. Unfortunately, without Slaten and Martin, he’s being asked to fill anywhere from the 2-4 slot, and he’s not that type of pitcher.

Plus asking pitcher to get 5 outs in an inning …

Who knew that Weissert was the answer to getting Verdugo out. Way to go

Who you going to use? You’ve got another game tomorrow and you’re going to need arms then, too.

Sox pitching since the All Star break have allowed 4, 7, 9, 9, 0, 20, 7, 11 and 7 (so far) runs. 74 runs in 9 games, and include 1 shutout. That’s almost unfathomable.

That '0' looks strange. But, then, so does the '20.'

Correct. Gonzo and Devers provided no help. And the FO has known that Martin is likely a basket case for the duration, and Slaten has been out at least 2 full weeks. None of this is actually Weissert's fault. As you say he would normally be a #5/6 in a pen.

Only thing I'll say is he palays defense with his butt, but gets the out which Gonzo and Raffy didn't do

Even if Brez made a deal for 2 relievers tonight, the players have 3 days, I believe , to report, so you will get into the Mariner's series with no help. I'm ready to put this season on the FO not reacting smartly to the injury situations, and to a MiLB contingent, not quite ready for primetime.

Before the ASB it was "full speed a head, Captain." Since the ASB, it's been " we've just hit an iceberg, Captain. Women and children first."

But Captain, the ownership tried to save money so didn't buy any lifeboats for this freighter

Based on the SOX pitching(actually lack of) and their remaining tough schedule, don't count the SOX out of reaching the cellar. They still have a lease on that basement apartment. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

It's one thing to get beat, it's another thing to get embarrassed by mental and physical errors, along side a disinterested attitude towards the game. A deserved loss that was over after the top half of 1st.

And w/o super-sized Kenley and muscle-bound Tyler there will be much more room in the apartment.

Well then it's "start swimming ya buggers."

It’s the same comment God had when Noah asked him to build an ark and Noah asked him if he was kidding:

“Noah-how long can you tread water?”

They often take 1/2 day to 1 and 1/2 days to report.

No drama in this game. Other than a couple of solo homers, just a dismal performance.

We gave up 7, 11 and 8 runs in the 3 games. With our 2 best starters going.

Our pitching is in meltdown mode.

The Red Sox had the Yankees teetering on the ropes after Friday’s game, but let them off the hook Saturday, and now I believe the Yankees are in a lot better shape going forward than the Red Sox. Big Mo swung hard this weekend.

Last year it was the starters going down, and No replacements were added, and the team went with openers after openers for a long stretch, which turned out disastrous. This year the Red Sox knew they were in trouble at the AS break, and knew it was even going to get worse in Colorado without a closer in the BP, and NOTHING was done, and the results were 4 blown games late by the BP. Even if something is done big now to help the BP you won’t get those 4 losses back, and those 4 losses as all losses do could be the difference at the end of making the postseason, or not'

Houck and Crawford hit the wall weeks ago. We needed to manage their IP and or pitch counts, all along. The lack of pitching depth killed us.

It might be too late to hope for a return to form from those two pitchers, even if we go to a 6 man rotation and baby them the rest of the way.

I can't see Pivetta, Criswell, Paxton and Bello taking up the slack.

We would need to trade for an ace and 2-3 solid RP'ers to get our staff back to top tier (10) or maybe 11th to 15th best.

I'm not feeling all that optimistic, anymore. I know two games should not flip a switch, but it's been more than the last 2 games. The rotation was showing signs of decline before th AS break, and the whole staff collapsed after the break.

I'm not sure adding 4 solid pitchers will be enough.
