Cora's big mistake was bringing Bello out to pitch the 7th. He gave up runs in the 5th and 6th, showing he was losing it.

Much credit to Cora for knowing Westbrook's strong suit is patience , taking that walk. After all he waited about 20 years to make the MLB ( from Little League days.)

Also Abreu jammed his foot or ankle coming into the dugout, where he might not have been able to run out the dribbler he was destined to hit.

Booser sucks. Even his outs have all been hit hard

Yep, but should have been out of the inning allowing only 1 run at most (and probably none); New York screwed the pooch on the review.

Bullpen Roulette again shoots Cora in the butt. Also there were 2 outs when the serious damage was done.

Still have the question why not Martin? Isn’t standard procedure in these games use your closer in the 9th, your next best available reliever in the 10th, etc?

Actually, with his father being there and all, I thought it was cool.

Once again if the Sox knew what base to throw to, how to hit the cutoff man and other fundamental aspects of baseball that do not show up in the errors column but cost runs, they would have won this game in 9 innings. Then again, their 1st baseman Smith had to make some incredible picks to keep the error count down.

In the NHL the reviews go to Toronto, where the BRUINS are truly hated.

Unless he was unavailable for something we're unaware of, I, too, was surprised he wasn't in for the 10th. However, Martin this season is a far cry from last season's Martin.

Maybe the May 30th mess against the Tigers ( 4 hits/3 runs) gave Cora some pause. Martin may also be sick, tired/sore armed, or whatever else plagues 38 year old pitchers

Or else it could be Alex promised him his birthday as an off day. Martin turned 38 today

Most people with average jobs don't get their birthdays off, but this is baseball where one can look like a hobo and still make millions.

Off topic:

It took 70 years of Godzilla movies, but the greatest Godzilla movie of them all has finally arrived. Godzilla Minus One is a monster classic. If you're into these kind of films, this one is a no brainer. Now playing on Netflix. The English dubbing is excellent.

Note to Hollywood: You own King Kong; leave Godzilla alone. Japan owns that one.

Ref needs to play (DH mostly) everyday.

He is even hitting RHPs better than LHPs.

If we starts slumping, then try someone else.

Ref has been excellent full stop.

A head scratcher that Cora continues to give ABs to a complete stiff like Cooper.

Cora uses the guys the CBO gives him. He always does. If you want Cooper gone, Breslow is the only one that can do it.

So true, and though it looks like a manager all-in with his boss's roster construction, sometimes I think AC only uses some of those issued the laundry just to spite the guys who signed them.

When performers are dreckful, the audience doesn't get what it pays for.

The CBO gave Cora Ref and Wong. He can use them at DH and platoon Cooper and Smith at 1B, thereby using them all.

Just suggesting a tweak in how they are used, and how often.

Yes and no. I think Cora deliberately plays as many position players as possible to reveal their worth or lack thereof.

Ref is a position player just like Cooper.

I can understand not wanting to put your catcher at DH, in case you need to replace the starting catcher, mid game, but Ref should bat v L and R.

Wong has cooled a bit, since I advocated DH'ing him some.

Prior to this year nobody wanted to see Ref against a righty. He's been great against righties this year, but some of that has to be the BABIP luck thing.

Ref has an absurd BABIP of .424 overall, .405 vs. RHP and .458 vs. LHP.

Agreed. I've said ride it until he stops.

He can't be worse than Cooper.

(Also, Wong has career reverse splits.)

This b eing said, I still know Cora knows more than I do.

It turns out that I'm an even bigger Cora fan than you are.

I think Cora has certain principles that he adheres to when he's making out lineups and he sticks to them faithfully. He doesn't bury guys who are cold like Cooper. He's definitely not a "ride the hot hand" guy.

It's up to Breslow to cut a guy like Cooper loose.
