Mize ® vs. Bello ®, about even but I give the edge to Bello

Duran LF

Abreu RF

Smith 1B

Devers 3B

Valdez 2B

Cooper DH

McGuire C

Rafaela CF

Hamilton SS

Once again, 7 lefty bats for the Sox, who are going for the series win.

Cooper at DH?!?! What’s Cora smoking?!?!

??? I thought you were a believer in Cooper turning it around.

What's the better alternative?

You mis-spelled lefty.

But you're the guy who wanted him gone long ago.

Huh?

I'm saying Cooper and Smith should never DH. I've said that all along.

I wanted Kavadas called up to platoon with Cooper at 1B.

Yes, you're right.

The thing is we don't really have much better than Cooper at the moment. Wong would be the exception, but they probably thought he needed a rest day.

Apparently you missed yesterday’s game thread.

I questioned his choice of Valdez and his sub.450 OPS at DH. Valdez hit 2 HRs and 10 TB. So now I will see if lightning strikes twice…

I do not follow game threads with the same religious fervor as I follow most threads here, it's true...

Got it. We're back to square one now. And moon has been outed as the grumpy one...

For everyone who was wanting the Sox to throw a lot of money and years at Jordan Montgomery, he has 3 wins and a 5.48 ERA. His ERA over his last 6 starts is 6.61. He is getting lit up. It is another example of why you should spend big bucks on older pitchers who weren't that good for most of their careers. Montgomery 41-37 with 3.78 ERA for his career. Certainly not worth 20 million a year or anything close to that.

He was pretty damn good for 3 full years, 2021 to 2023.

The Sox reportedly were not big fans of his stuff. It does seem like they were right to pass on him. Not sure if it wasn't just because they were being cheap, though, because they passed on a whole lot of guys.

I’m new to this superstitious stuff. Should I announce or mark posts done purely for that reason?

His track record over the past few seasons shouldn’t be erased by a bad 9 start stretch…

He is a .500 pitcher who has had one year with a sub 3 ERA. Not worth the money he was seeking. Sox were smart to pass on him. Give the money to Houck who they drafted and developed.

Great work over the last 2 games, Max. A win streak of 2 or more constitutes brilliance this year. But, it's a take what you can get year, and that includes a 3-1 series win vs an uninspiring Tigers team

A sub 3 ERA is a pretty tough standard. He was comfortably under 4 the last 3 years.

Notin, I know you know baseball but not familiar with superstitions ? The baseball mind is full of them. , sort of like the "unwritten " rules , lol.

Sox continue the same pattern of beating the bad teams and losing to the better ones. The good news is that there is no shortage of bad teams, so you can stay in the wild card hunt just by winning those games. Four games coming up with the ChiSox, without a doubt the worst team in MLB.

That is not a tough standard. Its just that people are more accepting of mediocrity today than they used to be. Just like hitting. There are not near as many .300 or better hitters than there used to be. Today, a 3.50 ERA is considered good. 6 innings is a quality start. 200 innings is a milestone. Everything is watered down today.

Ugly top of the 1st that ended well. Bello threw almost everything right down the middle and got away with it despite leadoff single and BB.

On that missed double play, I can't decide who looked worse, Hamilton on the bad throw or Bello cringing at 1b.

Any team that has Dom Smith batting 3rd is a bad team.

Valdez is red hot.

Somebody in Worcester taught him something that is working well. Great 2 out hit.

On the surface that is unarguable--and made worse by the fact that both Smith and Cooper are in the game. But Cora knows all.
