Houck vs. Paddack, both righties, big advantage to Sox

However, Twins are on 10 game winning streak--but 7 of those were against the woebegone 6-25 White Sox, worst team in MLB. Sox are 11-5 on the road and 7-9 in Boston.

I see this lineup for tonight--

Duran CF

Devers 3b

Refsnyder LF

O'Neill DH

Abreu RF

Wong C

Smith 1b

Grissom or Hamilton, 2b

Rafaela SS

Twins hitting and relief has been good. Their starters have let them down so far. Doesn't help that they let Gray and Maeda leave. Lopez and Ryan are decent and they'll be in games 2 and 3. Need to take the first game for sure.

Grissom has reportedly recovered from the flu and traveled with the team. However, with Valdez back in Worcester, Hamilton could get the nod with his lefty bat. His OPS vs righties is .669.

All good points, but you blew subject-verb agreement.

I was a math major then got an MBA/Master's in Accounting. I still can't spell for s*** and don't know how to use commas properly. I do love reading though.

I think there's an argument that he's correct. I think it's fine, but if desperate to defend it, I'd note the absence of an apostrophe in 'Twins' and construe plausibly: "Twins [are] hitting; and [their] relief [pitching] is good." (Always there for my USC homies.)

I was an engineering major and never took a single English class in college, and even I know a compound subject requires a plural verb, even if both parts of the compound subject are singular.

“The Twins’ hitting and relief have been good.”

Also a semi-colon connects two independent clauses, assuming you did not make a simple typo…

Well, not always. But in any case, my construction gives him a way out. You're right about the semi-colon; I should either omit it or replace with a comma. That should do it. I'm not letting my boy go down in flames!

Vaughn Grissom is the starting second baseman for the Boston Red Sox tonight, batting seventh behind DH Dom Smith.

Time to tear open that Topps wax pack...

Who is he?

If you went to high school, you were told about subject-verb agreement. It's true in English and in other languages as well.

Don't ruin the anticipation by having Grissom play.

OTOH, Hamilton should only be in the line-up in the unlikely event of a SOX player getting injured.

This was a very sensible lineup. Cora is simply out of control. I will probably have to call him again.

Very unlikely, I'd say. Sox have been lucky this year with so few injuries.

What was Devers looking at in that K ? 3-1 , take a cookie, 3-2 swing out of your Sox at a pitch a foot high.
