Hindsight is 20/20. I don't remember injury question marks coming up when he was signed. Easy to do a little dance about it now though.

A stretch as horrific as he had often turns out to be injury-related. That's not a controversial statement.

Spot on. People are always experts after an event.

Right, like the "experts" who chalked up his numbers to his divorce.

Who determined that his numbers were solely down to his divorce? And why are you discounting one of the most stressful things that can happen to a person in relation to performing at their high pressured job?

There's a multitude of variables that go into an athletes life and performance that most sports fans don't take a second to consider. Nobody knows s*** for sure, and anyone pretending that they do is making themselves look an idiot.

I'm not saying I know for sure. Save your preaching.

The Sox may have more money to spend, depending on how much of Giolito’s salary is now covered by insurance.

For what Giolito was paid, the Sox could probably pay Lauer, German and Stanek. Definitely two of them…

and Bauer.

Now it's being reported that Giolito was working on throwing his slider 2-3 MPH harder as part of the new ramp-up-the-velo program.

I'll take that as evidence you don't actually have examples of people saying it was all down to his divorce.

And I wasn't specifically talking about you. Most people look for reasons to back up their pre conceived biases. Which is why 'I knew it' after events are always so popular.

Was Monty supposed to be a one year investment?

No, but I don't see Henry spending a lot of money on a team that has no chance to make the playoffs. I see him spending a little more just to get the team to not wreak some young arms.

I'll take that as evidence you're not here very much.

No, going through a divorce is really easy mentally. I'm sure he was fine with it. Plus being sent off to two different teams when he had spent his whole career in Chicago.

So name names. Show me posts. Who said it was the sole reason for his performance? I read most of what's written here, I don't recall anyone proclaiming this as the only reason.

As someone who espoused it as a potential cause, I never said it was the sole reason or the clear reason, just a potential reason. Still seems fair for me to say? Still seems fair for me to say that nobody on here was mentioning that there was potentially an underlying injury?

Oh, so most likely the injury is new then? Not something from last year?

Duran pulled from the game today injured, flexing the foot he had surgery on earlier this off season.

Things are going swimmingly.

I guess. Hoping for a team that is near playoff turns to hoping for a team that is watchable.

I still think there will be enough interesting things to watch with the Sox, even if a lot of losing makes it difficult to enjoy.

We have a lot of young players looking to prove they deserve to stay or if they can get even better than they have shown, before.

We have some tweener guys being given a shot at the rotation, and maybe we find out, once and for all, where they belong.

Our offense should be fun to watch. Our defense should not be as frightful as 2023.

Our chances at making the playoffs went from slim to miniscule.

+1 great season!

Right.

They’ve supposedly been marketing Jansen and Martin all off-season, but both are still with the team. So suddenly other teams are going to be interested after Giolito went down?

No. Suddenly we take the best offers, even if we don't like them. If we think waiting until the deadline will bring more, fine.

Jansen has to prove he's healthy, first.

I think there is a waiting period on FA signings like O'Neill.

If they can get starting pitching prospects with upside, you jump on those trades.

If O'Neillll gets hot, you start asking around.

I think I'd be likely to keep Pivetta around at least until the deadline. If he's pitching great, maybe you talk about an extension.

Statement from Red Sox chief medical officer, Dr. Vinnie Boombatz : " We thoroughly examined the shoulder and pitching arm of the team's new lefthander, Lucas Giolito , before the contract was signed. We found absolutely nothing wrong. "

See everyone, the esteemed Vinnie Boombatz found nothing! Rest assured that the starting rotation is in good hands.

Why take crap offers? That's not how you rebuild. The Sox had a crap offer for Sale and passed on it, and waiting got them 5 years of a legit prospect/potential starting infielder...

Is the plan supposed to be loading up for the future or just cutting payroll today?

When the guy gets injured in spring training, combined with how he finished last year, it would be absurd to rule out that he was pitching hurt.

I never said it was for sure. Kind of a double standard here.

I didn't say take crap. I said take the best offer or wait until the deadline, if you think offers improve.

This is not about cutting payroll.

2024 is a punt, so act like it and get what you can for everyone not part of future plans. Something is better than nothing.

We've been getting nothing for far too long.

I'm not for trading Matin for a single A player with mild upside.

The Sale situation was different, and as you noticed, we traded him with one year left and paid half his salary.

We can pay half or more of Martin, jansen and others, too.

I'm not saying trade them all by the end of the week, no matter how bad the offer is, but get the best you can, even if you think it's not what each is worth.

This seems inaccurate. I heard he was amphibious; he could give up homers underwater, too.

I keep saying the playoff hopes aren't any different today -- and maybe even better. I don't care if a guy gives me innings if he's serving up longballs.

Now other pitchers will get an opportunity in those 180 innings... and maybe one of them will actually be good.

We may end up being better, but in no way are our odds better w/o Gio.
