The word on Whitlock is that he worked on strength training and bulked up in the off season, in hopes of staying healthy this year. Maybe add a little velocity as well.

He's always had the right stuff to be a SP'er. It's been about health and durability.

Hopefully, the conditioning upgrade will be a big factor. It's a reason for hope, for sure.

Ten games in and the Sox are playing .700 ball. Dismiss ST all you want, but the only teams with less losses are the Orioles and Dodgers -- expected contenders.

Starting pitchers all look at least decent, especially vs. minor league bats. Pitchers are always ahead of hitters early, but any sample size helps when searching for shreds of hope. Besides Devers, the Sox have zero home runs from their projected roster (which has barely played part-time, so far).

Defense looks "normal" with a big league shortstop and centerfielder. Really hoping they go west with Rafaela and his righty bat. Really don't like Story hitting third; as much as he's legit with the glove, his swing-and-miss is also legit (and has nothing to do with injuries). If either Ceddanne or Grissom can take off and spark rallies, there may be a scenario where Devers and Casas bat 2-3...

It would be nice if JetBlue was a modern facility and you could get Statcast data from there. Then we could know IF Whitlock was ticking up in velo...

They didn't lose their first ST game last year until March 10th.

For Grissom to take off and spark a rally, he would actually have to be in the lineup. As it looks now, he has leg related issues and will miss the opening road trip through the West. Not a great look so far.

Bello didn't even start a game until Patriot's Day last year. They should have DFA'd the bum.

To show how bad things are for the Red Sox at the gate, I just got tickets for behind home plate for Monday's game. Best seats I have gotten in more than 20 years and no premium.

Jacques has huge command and control issues.

Maybe he's still on Bailey's "I can fix him" list.

He's on the "has MLB experience and it's still ST so what's the rush in making a roster decision" list.

Also, he's a LHR with a good GB% and barrel %. The rest of the profile is bad though. Edited by mvp 78

There are others in the system and in MLB that need less "fixing."

Thanks Cap!

While you think it was an obvious statement, it might not have even been true. I mean, he’s definitely clearing waivers. So there’s a good chance the Sox still keep him anyway…

Based on the chatter he's generating, Jacques seems to have the potential to be this year's Kaleb Ort.

@jcmccaffrey

Cora said Lucas Giolito felt elbow discomfort after his last outing. They’re concerned. He’s getting check ups to see next steps. He’s likely not to be ready for Opening Day.

May need surgery and will miss the entire season.

Just when we thought the new shapes of his pitch shaping was really shaping up...

Does this means he won't be opting out next year?
