LOL. Others say I loved the guy and was his biggest defender.

Bloom made some big mistakes. Most of his biggest moves back-fired. Look at the deals for over $10M:

Devers- TBD

Story- injuries derailed hopes

Giolito- One year lost, 2nd year TBD

Jansen- great

Barnes- oops

Martin- great for 1 of 2 yrs (the wrong year)

Kike I- good for one year (the right one)

Richards

Kluber

Kike II

He did very well with under $10M deals and rebuilding the farm and foundation, and frankly by not trading away DD's best prospects. The current foundation has a lot to do with Bloom (and DD,) mostly because Bloom focused more on the longterm than the here and now. Well, the longterm is now the here and now, mostly because Bloom set it up this way. I thank him for that, but he failed to produce winning or exciting teams, along the way. He had a big enough budget to do so, and he did not.

I don't hate the guy, at all. He did some good things. I don't hate DD, Ben or Theo, either.

Can't really fault Bloom for Giolito...did you mix him up with Yoshida?

Yup. Ever since I've returned from Spain/Portugal, my mind has been distracted.

It's OK, we're here to pick you up, by pointing out every mistake. :D

Meidroth is on base in almost half his at bats!!! Surely we can work him onto the Boston 26????

Valdez opens up a spot on the 40 man roster

A decision has to be made on winkleman. He has a spot in the 40 as well

Winkelman is still only 22. He has another year to figure it out IMO.

434 OBP with a 382 SLG. Not really amazing IMO. Next year?

OBP is often not something that transfers well to MLB. The list is long of those who can't do it.

If we go by OBP, why not bring Dalbec back up? .363 OBP in minors/.290 in MLB.

Others:

.398 Cordero

.396 Alex Hasan

.392 Beni

.384 Basabe

.375 Lavarnway

.372 Cecchini

.370 Lars Anderson

When he is hot, he is hot!

But when he is cold, he is terrible

946 OPS July. His problem has been health.

Agreed.

His career high in games is this year's 43.

2022: 19 (.874 OPS)

2023: 34 (.580)

2024: 43 (.750)

Career: .720 in 392 ABs

Hard to tell, if someone is streaky in such short and broken sample sizes.

I'm sure internal guys have more feelings about where he stands as a player development wise, but I don't know what we can parse out from his numbers like you said. He's definitely one of the forgotten prospects who could make a run at being a legit prospect at some point. I'm not sure I'll hold my breath.

There's also Justin Riemer who has finally had a few AB's in FCL who profiles similarly to Meidroth, but with slightly better defense at 2B. I wasn't sure if he was going to get any AB's this year. We may see him get promoted to Salem or Greenville when the FCL season ends this week.

The soxprospects.com podcast spoke about how signed draftees not being able to go to FCL might hurt, but that college players might get some action at Salem.

That might push up some promotions, up the line, and some guys at AA/AAA let go.

I think the signed draft picks and others can still go to Ft Myers, they just won't be playing in FCL games. I believe they still do scrimmages against other teams nearby.

Yes, but it's too bad there are no more FCL games, once they sign. SP's seemed to think many will go to Salem, at some point.

I thought they said the opposite that most wouldn't appear this season and we wouldn't see them until next year? Just that some current FCL guys would get promoted like Musett and Arias.

Maybe I misheard what they said. I was kind of distracted while listening.

I thought they said a few might see time in Salem in 2024.

Wrote about Franklin Arias earlier this month. The 18-year-old is on one of the great runs in recent Red Sox minor league memory: A .418/.515/.709 line with 6 HR and 19 XBH in his last 34 games while showing legit defense

Maybe a few? I think the majority do not. Maybe we see Montgomery and Ehrhard in Salem, but I would assume most of the pitchers go to Ft Myers and work on development with the coaches there through August before shutting it down and coming up with an offseason plan. I think they'd stick defensive catcher Hudson White with the pitchers just so that there's a familiarity process with the pitchers.

Last season, Duffy and Early both threw a couple of innings in Salem, but I think the new Sox are more likely just to keep these guys in development.

I expected 1-2 of the big 3 to be promoted to AAA, after the AS break.

The AS Break was the one vacation these guys get during the year and Mayer/Anthony were excited for it. The Sox didn't want them to be worried about having find new living arrangements during that time. My guess is that there will be a promotion in the week or so.
