@EdHand89

Notes on the Red Sox third round pick, RHP Brandon Neely.

-U of F Gator

-Fastball is his best pitch currently. Tops at 96-97 but mostly lives around 93 mph. Misses bats due to ride.

-Best secondary pitch is his slider, also throws a changeup + curveball.

-Worked mostly out of the pen in college but there are scouts who believe he has the pitch repertoire to be a backend starter.

On Neely:

@redsoxstats

In the post season last month, he threw 24 innings with 15 hits allowed, 5 walks, and 38 strikeouts.

92-94 T97, with yet again, lower release height and lots of ride and movement.

Round 4: Zach Ehrhard - OF, RH

@RotoClegg

Boston takes Zach Ehrhard at 115. OF from Oklahoma State.

Hit .331/.458/.627 with 14 HR & 25 2B tho year.

Elite contact profile:

87% contact/93% in-zone w/sub 20% chase

Respectable EVs: 90 mph average/104 mph 90th. Hits the ball at ideal angles.

Round 6: Blake Aita, RHP

@ggeiss_mlb

Blake Aita some who has “stuff.”

Another big metric pitcher.

FB 89-91 t94 with his spin rates and armside run.

Low 80’s sweeper with 3000+ RPMs and massive horizontal break.

Mid 80’s cutter as well.

The command is something he’ll need to work on moving forward.

What do we do with meidroth????

He will never replace Devers, but he could be 3B depth, if Devers gets hurt.

I think his best chance at making the Sox 26 is at 2B/DH. I think he is blocked and could be traded.

2B: Story or Mayer (whichever is not the starting SS,) Campbell, Grissom, DHam, Romy, EValdez and Yorke make 7 guys ahead of Meidroth on the 2B depth chart.

DH: Yoshida, Refsnyder, EValdez, Campbell, Yorke and maybe Kavadas & Lugo are ahead of Meidroth at DH. That's 6-7 above him. Even if he beats out Yoshida, why does he look better than Ref vs LHPs and EValdez vs RHPs or Campbell/Lugo/Kavadas/Yorke?

If Meidroth learns to play LF, there are plenty in front of him, there.

I'm not sure if these guys have much trade value, but to me, these near ML ready prospects/young player are super blocked:

E Valdez

Meidroth

Lugo

Castro

Paulino

Kavadas/Hickey/Rosier

They could be secondary pieces for a decent rental if a team values them higher than the Red Sox. Meidroth is starting to intrigue me, I've never given him much thought because the scouting worries me in that the underlying metrics tells he's a guy who can't impact the ball and will be exposed at the higher level. But he's been nailing the ball lately so I'm wondering if something is changing with him.

I think we can get something decent for 2-3 of the guys I listed- perhaps 2-3 together, or one with a mid level guy added (Fiits, Sandlin or Yorke.)

I keep bringing up the Aldo Ramirez for Schwarber trade as an example, but those types of deals are common: a team's 10-20th prospect for a decent and useful player.

Fitts and 1-2 from Valdez, Lugo, Meidroth, Paulino, Castro, Jordan for a SP.

Yorke and 2-3 from the same group for a SP or RHB + RP.

It would hardly affect our future depth chart, except for maybe Fitts.

A decision has to be made on winkleman. He has a spot in the 40 as well

Yes, as do Dalbec & Mata. Many times, needing to be on the 40 is a bad thing, to some teams looking at a winter roster crunch.

Some of our 40 man roster players have zero trade value, but here is my trade list for them:

EValdez

Murphy

Walter

Wikelman

Mata

Westbrook

Horn

Heineman

Wingenter

Speas

Dalbec

Rule 5, this winter, that could be traded:

Yorke

Lugo

Jordan

Guerrero

Paulino

Castro

Hickey

Gambrell

Sogard

Troye
