I really want to get excited about Yorkes play but it's such a small sample size after doing nothing to improve his stock for two years.

It's nice to see the big three are all looking great in AA, and all three look like they could be ready to start contributing to the team at some point in 2025.

I want to see more of this Ovis Portes kid, it's always fun to see someone pop. 19 tall righty already up to 98 MPH and misses bats.

Agreed.

Except for Wikelman, many of our top prospects and a few of the farther away ones have done pretty good to great, so far. It seems like there are now more than just 3 to have high hopes on, and the big three have done nothing to lower their stock, so far.

The Big 3

.856 Roman Anthony

.855 Marcelo Mayer

.853 Kyle Teel

(Amazing how they all have almost exactly the same OPS)

The Rising 3

.996 Kristian Campbell (This kid looks for real!)

.929 Jhostynxon Garcia (Maybe the biggest surprise)

.726 Bleis (staying healthy: promoted to A+)

The Welcome Back 3

1.110 Matthew Lugo (was pretty highly rated, once before)

.966 Niko Kavadas (maybe belongs in the Career AAA category)

.754 Nick Yorke (came alive in AAA SSS at 1.246)

The Still Far Away but Looking Good 3

1.063 Johanfran Garcia (SSS due to IL)

1.009 Yoelin Cespedes (Getting attention)

.786 Frankin Arias (FCL)

Have to work on some things/Career AAA 3

.892 Mickey Gaspar

.867 Nick Sogard

.801 Chase Meidroth

The Pitchers:

May Graduate Soon/Recent Graduate 3 (OPS Against)

.553 at MLB level Justin Slaten

.288 Zach Kelly (.539 in MLB in 84 PAs Against)

.374 Cam Booser (.667 in MLB w 101 PAs Against)

The Near MLB Ready 3

.671 Richard Fitts

.710 Luis Guerrero

.536 Bailey Horn

The Surprising 4

.593 Zach Penrod

.631 Perales (promoted to AA, but on IL)

.642 Hunter Dobbins (AA)

.695 Hayden Mullins (A+)

The Far Away 3

.354 Ovis Portes (promoted to SAL)

.514 Juan Valera (FCL)

.668 Connelly Early (A+)

The More Highly Ranked 6

.611 Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz #16 (A-)

.771 David Sandlin #9 (A+)

.755 Wikelman Gonzalez #15 (AA and lost)

.809 Yordanny Monegro #20 (A+)

.685 Angel Bastardo #28 (AA)

.634 Ryan Zeferjahn #30 (AAA)

Not So Sure About 8

.534 Jonathan Brand (promoted to AA)

.551 Blake Wehunt (promoted to A+)

.572 Helcris Olivarez (AA)

.582 Danny Kirwin (A-)

.600 Jojo Ingrassia (A-)

.676 Matt Duffy (A-)

.682 Jedixson Paez (promoted to A+)

.717 I Coffey (AA)

The Meh 5

Jhostynxon has 5 HR's in 11 G's since being called up to GRE. He's been tearing the cover off the ball all season long.

Isn't Greenville supposed to be the killer of all homeruns???

Is Salem still considered a terrible minor league facility???

Oh yeah. That's in large part why they were flipped from High A to A a few seasons ago. Greenville is a much nicer facility. Salem is death for hitters and a bad facility overall from what I've heard.

Unfortunately, Sox sold the Salem Red Sox this offseason to Diamond Baseball Holdings. I'm not sure if they have control to move the team now or put pressure on them to make the facilities nicer.

The 2020 draft has gotten a lot of criticism, over the year, but without the Anthony pick at #79, the '22 draft was looking pretty sketchy. Not sure a few days makes much of a difference, but Cutter Coffey has exploded.

Romero has not done much to redeem himself, but has looked a little better.

Other, later picks have done well, but none look destined to rock MLB.

129. Meidroth

99. Dalton Rogers

159. Noah Dean

189. Alex Hoppe

Best hope from the later may be #369 Hayden Mullins

We all know Youk was the Greek God of Walks, but does everyone know who the German God of Walks is?

It also helps that they play teams like 6 games in a row now, makes me wonder if the opposing team just had horrible pitching.

Brannon -39

Isaac Coffey - lots of love given to him last year by some posters

Mullins - 32

Ehrlicher -52

Seems like a solid draft to me. If Mikey can stay healthy, it really improves the outlook of the team and Cutter (HS bat) has been mashing lately.

Early, Wehunt and every college pitcher not named Duffy and Weins pitched really well in Salem. Nelly Taylor's stats aren't popping off the page, but MiLB guys really like him.

Riemer has still yet to play an inning and Anderson needs a while to get his game going.

That has to be part of it, but we've had a few hot players going on weeks and weeks long stretches.

I look at our farm, this way: of course nothing is a guarantee. We entered the season viewed as a top 6-12 farm in all of MLB. Some services openly said they dinged our ranking due to an unbalance between pitching and everyday players (more on that later.) Here is my breakdown:

The Big Three

Basically everybody had and still has our big 3 in their top 25-40. I don't think any have taken a step back, in terms of expectations, and to me, all have improved their standing.

The Second Tier

While Yorke took a dip in the last rankings, even he has shown a strong resurgence after being promoted to AAA. Maybe he moves back to top 12 in the system. Players like Bleis stayed healthy and even in the standings, but we have seen some big jumps by Campbell, Cespedes, Lugo, Zanetello, and I suspect JH Garcia to join this group in the next rankings.

The Pitching

Slaten just graduated, but to me, he still counts on the 2024 farm list. He easily met expectations and then some. The injury to Perales may blow up all the gains he made, this season, but nonetheless, he looked great. Fitts has moved up to #7 and Sandlin #9. Both still have big questions about being solid ML pitchers, but they do have skills. The drop to the next tier is pretty wide. There is no sugar coating our lack of bonafide pitching prospects, and I'm never a fan of striving for quantity over quality, but sometimes some longshots work out fine. We have seen a couple, this year, already. We do have many ranked pitchers from #15 to the low 30's:

15. Wikelman (trending down)

16. E Rod (should pass Wikelman in July)

20, Monegro (not doing well)

22. Penrod (27 y/o)

24. Dobbins (may move up some and is Rule 5)

25. Guerrero (Rule 5)

26. Early (maybe a sleeper)

28. Bastardo (Rule 5, this year)

29. Portes (probably the real sleeper)

30. Zeferjahn (been up and down)

31. Gambrell (probably out of the

32. Mullins (the third sleeper)

I think the farm took a step up, but I know I'm a homer on this.

In only his 2nd week in Double-A, Kristian Campbell has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week!

After 7 HR's in his last 6 games, Cutter Coffey wins the South Atlantic player of the week.

I should hope so!

@SPChrisHatfield

Maybe the worst part of the Perales TJS: b/c he's on the 40-man roster, he's going to have burned 2 options by the time he's fully rehabbed (I'm assuming he's out for most of 2025). He has 2026 to get ready to contribute full time in 2027. 2 offseasons of a dead roster spot too.
