Winklemen was all over the place, he walked a bunch of batters. Whenever he got a pitch in the strike zone, he got a lot of white with it

Maybe, we should just move him to the pen, now..

It was the very first inning he sucked in. He retired 6 of 7 afterwards. I'm not sure what will fix his issues.

This is why even the interns that front offices assign to read these forums totally ignore dinosaurs are us.

OPENER! ... (they chuckle) ... Just bring him in the second inning!

It's one game.

You have often said he would be better in relief.

I didn't say he would be better, just that he's not likely to stick in the rotation because of games like this. I don't think moving him to the pen fixes his issues. If he came out of the bullpen, he would have still walked 5 guys that day.

From soxprospects.com

FCL Red Sox 10, FCL Rays 3

The FCL Sox had 17 baserunners on their way to a 10-run outburst. Andrew Musett continues to dominate, going 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Mussett has now reached safely 14 times in 24 plate appearances. Yoeilin Cespedes ripped an RBI double in the fifth inning and added a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Franklin Arias tripled and walked as part of his 2-for-4 afternoon. Raimundo de los Santos was held hitless in his two official at-bats but he drew three walks, stole two bases, and scored three times.

Bryan Mata and a trio of relievers were the beneficiaries of the offensive explosion. Mata, on the injured list since spring training with a hamstring strain, allowed one run on three hits in two innings, striking out two without issuing a walk. Deybi Salcedo gave up just one hit in 2 2/3 scoreless frames, striking out four, walking three, and getting credit for the win. Ovis Portes pitched the final three innings to get the save. He allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out four.

Watching Bastardo closely in a game, he had a decent mix: 95 velo with a Bello-type change-up. If he can harness that stuff with consistency, may be a future MLB starter.

I've never been a fan of quantity over quality with building pitching staffs and farm systems, but we seem to have a lot of pitchers who are not considered top prospects but who have some hopes.

Maybe some will turn into the next Crawford or Criswell. (I would have mentioned Wink, but he's in AAA, now.)

The problem with quality is that a few arm injuries and your farm is cooked. Quantity is important at times.

Yes, a healthy balance of both is best, but the quantity thing hasn't worked very well for over a decade. (One could argue we lacked quantity, too, unless you're talking quantity of mediocrity or worse.)

@EdHand89

Kristian Campbell is currently second in the South Atlantic League (High-A) in extra-base hits (15), SLG (.589), OPS (.996), and ISO (.300), third in doubles (9), and home runs (6), and seventh in OBP (.407),

As the number of breaking balls thrown increases, and the pitch clock stays, the number of pitcher injuries will only increase!!!

Teams will have to have very very very deep pitching staffs

Indeed. Deep in mediocrity can help, if you have more of that than other teams and injuries are rampant, everywhere, but we do need quality, too.

There is only so much quality to go around. That is why hang’em chiaim’s lack of pitching early in the draft is bizarre!

But we have middle infielders galore
