That would be the main reason.

Valdez can only "play" one position. Reyes can back up the entire IF and OF if necessary. I think Reyes (or comparable) is more important to this team than Valdez. Valdez is a platoon DH at best.

Yes, that was my point.

notin pointed out Reyes has no options, and EValdez has some.

When Grissom comes back, he could be the back-up SS, but keeping Reyes makes the most sense, regardless of options.

@EdHand89

One interesting note from WooSox media day- neither Stephen Scott or Roberto Perez are listed on the opening day roster.

Travelling with BOS just in case?

Why wouldn't it be Heineman, who is the only other catcher on the 40?

IDK? I don't know any other reason they aren't on the roster unless there have been some changes.

Perez could be a quick 40 man add in case of injury. Scott????

@ChrisCotillo

Another Red Sox note: Roberto Pérez is starting the season in extended spring training as he continues to ramp up baseball activities. Not in Worcester to start.

Cotillo and Ed Hand are the only ones who have noted the Perez or Scott situation on Twitter. Scott has been playing most of ST, but maybe he got injured at some point? I know he played in the game I saw down in Jupiter.

SoxProspects projected Scott to start in POR if that means anything.

@SPChrisHatfield

Just learned that Noah Song, who went on the 60-day IL this morning, needs Tommy John surgery. More adversity for right-hander, who after his 2019 debut had a multi-year absence due to his military commitment, followed by a roller-coaster 2023 with the Phillies as a Rule 5 pick.

Not much of a chance he evers does anything in the bigs.

Really hoping Joely is not this year’s version of brazier

I doubt they stick with him like they did with Brazier.

If he sucks here and gets dropped, I can't worry about what happens after.

Christian Koss has been dealt to the Giants. He hit .237/.285/.351/.636 with a homer in 34 games at AAA last season.

Frank German has been released after returning to the organization. He never made it to big league camp this spring.

@BOSSportsGordo

Red Sox minor league infielder Christian Koss has been traded to the Giants, per @redsoxstats.

This comes the day after the team and C Stephen Scott mutually parted ways. Lots of depth in this farm system leading to decisions.

The last remnants of the Meatball Gang is gone.

@SoxProspects

Per the MiLB transaction page, the Boston Red Sox have released C Stephen Scott, OF Albertson Asigen, RHP Franklin German, and RHP Dylan Spacke. They have also assigned newly acquired RHP Naoyuki Uwasawa to Triple-A Worcester.

I guess I was always too high on Scott.

One more wrong position.

That's the problem with taking positions on baseball prospects, they're usually wrong.

I don't have any positions. Well, Noah Song was a slightly embarrassing exception. :cool:

Well, per Peter Abraham, letting Noah get picked in the Rule 5 draft was a WHOLESALE EMBARRASSEMENT for the Red Sox, so I think you're ok. If you remind him of that tweet, you'll get blocked.

Especially on dark horse ones like Scott.

That made zero sense to me. I thought Dombrowski handled it poorly, but assumed he would do the smart thing. He never did (although Bloom might have made it tougher)…

Crazy game in Lehigh valley. Gonzalez with two taters. Hamilton with one tater. Sox up 4-0 in the ninth and for some reason they brought in Jacques and Sox lose 7-4.

Jacques has as many lives as Brasier did.
