There were a few quotes right after he was hired and some complaints here and there.

This is why I have said the FO runs like the old Soviet Kremlin. Henry has created this backstabbing culture which went after Dombrowski then Bloom. Is it no wonder that so many qualified candidates declined to interview for the Red Sox job.

Whole lot of conjecture here, but probably a lot more fun than what's actually happening.

I think there's some people that are upset that Eddie Romero didn't get the job and some people that are just bastards that like to start whisper campaigns with people like Pete Abraham and Sean McAdam. I don't know how pervasive it is, but keeping BOH and others around seems dumb? At least set up Crag to succeed.

What conjecture? FO personnel complained about DD's management style and Bloom's dilatory decision-making. And there certainly was not a deluge of applicants clamoring to be Henry's next CBO/Scapegoat.

I'm not disagreeing, but are their direct quotes of back-stabbing or just reports from totally objective journalists?

Do we really need John Henry’s comments on anything?

Just reply to this post with any question you want Henry to give some voice to and I will answer how Henry would answer it…

I hate when people get your hopes up on here.

Why would various members of the FO and ownership all say wildly different things this offseason? For PR purposes, shouldn't there be a united front?

I assure you the members of the front office are al working together towards a united goal. Our primary gooal is to make the team better and be more competitive in 2024.

Why would the budget be reduced from last year if it's not even close to hitting the CBT to begin with? If the prospects don't work out, what is the next phase of bridge planning?

We have no plans to reduce the budget. We are weighing the current options agaist our needs now and in the future.

Were you unhappy with the amount of candidates that backed out of the interview process for the CBO position and what does that say about the perception of this franchise across the league?

No. The candidate we arrived at was our top choice all along.

The outlook of this team is as poor as it has been since pre-1967 with the numerous below .500 seasons. Is the pressure of trying to follow a sustainable model in the manner of the Rays maybe too difficult a task?

Absolutely not. We feel as though we are well on our way towards achieving this goal now that we have the right person in charge.

Would using financial might while developing a farm system be better like the Dodgers?

We are allocating our resources as we feel appropriate to establishing ourselves as being perennial contenders.

How do you feel about the unnamed FO sources that have spoken out against Crag since he has been hired? Do you think it would be better to have everyone on board and supporting him?

Again I assure you this team is working together as the best assembly of front office talent we have. Any comments directed at the poor performance of any individual have likely been taken out of context.

And there is your John Henry press conference for the year. Did you expect anything different?

Nobody ever asked these questions.

Now, there never is even an opportunity to not ask these questions.

Mitch Keller signs a 5-year extension for $77 Million... with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Age 27, made his first All-Star team last season...

Red Sox better know if they lowball Bello this Spring and he has an All-Star year, the price he'll extend for maybe just doubled.

Feel free to debate current and future market values, but Bello may be looking for a bit more than a Whitlock contract: 4 for $18.75 M

Keller was in a different situation than Whitlock and Bello.

Keller was making $5.4M, this year and had just 1 ard year left. A 5 year extension is 4 years beyond the team control. If we sign Bello to 7 years. it would be for just 2 years beyond the 5 years of control we already have.

Keller is 27, so this 5-yr extension keeps him in Pitt through age 32. Bello's going to be 25 in May. A 7-year contract keeps him through age 32.

Can we agree 25-32 is usually a starting pitcher's prime years?

Keller has been worth 7.5 fWAR through 523 IP, which is a total for maybe 3 seasons, making him worth roughly 2.5 fWAR per year. Bello has been worth 2.9 fWAR for his first 214 IP, probably 1 pace for 1.5 seasons, pacing him at about 1.5 fWAR per season to date. Bello has not been as good as Keller to date, but I think he can outperform him over the next few seasons, assuming no injuries. But the risk of injuries are also why the Sox can get away with a lower salary with Bello; he is in a much riskier position.

Yes.

I'm just talking about the money part. The extension for Keller covered 1 year of team control (his last arb year) plus 4 years of basically open market prices. A Bello extension would cover 5 arb year, the last of which might be at pretty big numbers, but only 2 open markey years. I would not expect similar contract numbers or AAV.

Also, it's a projection that he COULD be as good or better than Keller. He just may not get better than what he currently is!

I just hope they're not offering their best homegrown pitcher since Buchholz multiple years at what amounts to below-market value for the top pitcher in a rotation (whether that's a #3, #2 or #1 -- depending on which game he starts in each series).

The Red Sox front office has a recent history of outsmarting itself when it comes to player agents... although maybe that will finally change, now that a former player who had an agent is CBO.

Every other fanbase is pissed off about the new uniforms and we can't even get to that yet because of how cheesed we are about our treatment by ownership.

True, I haven’t focused on the uniforms. Do they look really bad? Are they just one option or have they changed all the uniforms? Edited by a700hitter

This should start an endless series of internet jokes, all of them with the same punchline.

“Ball two.”

Really cheap. For some teams, they've moved the middle button hem so that the script doesn't line up anymore and it looks awful (Dodgers is a good example). The names on the back are smaller and look like foreign knockoffs. The white pants are see through.

How can such a seemingly simple assignment get f***ed up so badly?

It happened because Nike took over and rushed into it. They really cheapened out in the process and nobody took a second look at what they were doing. They were more concerned about "breathability" than anything else and it caused them to look like dogshit and be virtually transparent. Also, players are no longer able to tailor them the way they'd like.

"Universal concern is the pant," Clark said.

@Sean_McAdam

on the Red Sox still not being able to fit Jordan Montgomery into their budget, despite being $31 MM below the first luxury tax threshold:

“As a matter of course, an industry source said the Red Sox have maintained contact with Montgomery’s representative, Scott Boras. But even this late in the process, Montgomery’s asking price has not dropped to the point where the Red Sox could fit him into their budget, which has been in place for some time.”

Internally, the Red Sox don’t view themselves as the most likely landing spot for Montgomery. Embarrassing that their “budget” can’t make this work.

Pitchforks if it's just a "budget" issue...

It's not the budget, silly. It's all about control -- why sign a good pitcher for seven years?

What, and waste the last three seasons of Raffy's contract?
