The draft is not the problem. Stop beating that drum.

The draft is part of the problem! It's not the only reason for the problem though.

1. They haven't typically drafted starting pitchers in the first 3 rounds in the past decade. When they have done so, they have been horrible.

2. They haven't used the other draft capital to acquire other starters to supplement the MLB rotation.

3. They haven't been able to turn their pitchability guys into anything more than org pitchers like Walter that won't impact an MLB rotation.

4. They haven't acquired high priced FA's to lead their MLB rotation when available.

I guess I’m as not all up in arms, because not much has been done transition wise, because i didn’t expect it in the first place. We don’t know for sure what the main reason was that Bloom got fired, but just, because he was and an exhausted search was done to replace him, and just, because Tom said full throttle didn’t mean to me all of a sudden the Red Sox were going to be big spenders again. I didn’t expect the Yam Man, Monty, or Snell in the rotation as it appears many did. It’s still not Mar 28th, and the season hasn’t even started yet, but most on here have written the Red Sox off already.

"Exhausted search" is perfect.

They did draft Ball, and Groome, but neither worked out.

It doesn't mean you stop drafting. They drafted Deven Marrero and Michael Chavis as SS's in the 1st round and that didn't stop them from drafting more SS's.

Not sure why the Sox (and numerous other teams) not spending heavily in free agency is some sort of tragedy…

No, it's better that the Sox have really high ticket prices, it's a pain in the ass to go to games and ownership DOESN'T reinvest back into the product!

Most on here? One national reporter already predicted the Sox to win 60 games this year. The general consensus among those in the industry is that Boston is all out.

C'mon man, you know one of the biggest reasons they're keeping payroll down is so they can reduce ticket prices eventually.

Seems fair.

Now, grade the IFA signings, each year.

How about the trades for prospects and the Rulle 5 additions and subtractions?

Grissom

Campbell, Weissert & Fitts

Abreu & EValdez

Wink and Gambrell

DHam & Binelas

Whitlock (Rule 5)

I won't ask about Wong.

IFA (hard to grade as there is limited exposure above FCL for most of these guys):

'21 - B+ Bleis helps this class out a lot

'22 - B- Top 2 signings are busts, but Garcia, Alcantara and Yuten may stick around

'23 - B+ Cespedes seems like a good little player

Other moves:

'20 - C- Betts and deadline trades (Pivetta)

'21 - B- Whitlock and Schwarber

'22 - D Over the CBT (Abreu/Valdez)

'23 - D+ Turner/Jansen/Martin/Duvall were acceptable but ultimately not enough to move the needle, other moves were not great

One thing I see with this ownership group is that they're pussies, always shying away from controversial players.

Boston is kind of a Puritanical place, too.

Verdugo, McGuire, Pham, ... But I guess you're still hoping for Franco.

I wasn’t implying they should stop drafting pitchers, but just pointing out some they had drafted didn’t work out. Bard, and Barnes didn’t work out as SP either.

If the Red Sox suck like the 2020 team I’ll be on board with the T&F, but I’m not going to panic before the season even starts.

I get that. I also think that you d maybe we value these players more than they do and press for immediacy.

Both Snell and Montgomery would be upgraded. But does it make sense to go all in for these guys or maybe wait a year and go all in for Corbin Burnes or Walker Buehler or Brandon Woodruff or Shane Bieber or Max Fried? That’s part of the agenda that we don’t know about but I can’t pretend doesn’t exist.

And despite the lack of action this year, pitchers like Snell, Montgomery, Bauer, Clevinger, and Mike Lorenzen are all still out there so other teams aren’t grabbing any of them either. There are three Cy Young awards still looking for jobs!

It’s not as early as it used to be, but with so many pitchers still available, it’s not over yet…

...and just like that this post makes sense even to me. Doesn't make me feel much better or even confident that any of those things might happen but certainly is a sensible approach to a pretty bleak picture.

Verdugo's just lazy, Pham is small potatoes, and they backpedaled hard on Pham. Also, that Franco joke is taking it too far. A guy who likes rough sex and a pedophile are pretty goddamn far apart.

You, bitch.

You fool! You bought in last year with your 84 wins prediction, and you bought in this year with full throttle. You were all excited with the Red Sox meeting with the Yam Man like they had a snowballs chance in hell of landing him either paying the price, or outbidding the others.

Of course. But any fan can see that good teams are assembled from all the ways of player acquisition. And just like GMs can't empty the farm and swap for big-time talent... nor can they say we're just going to let our homegrown guys mature -- and not supplement them with veteran stars who will establish a winning culture.

Especially when it comes to pitching. Seasons should never be forfeited for the future. Teams can't wait until they have good regulars before they recruit good starting pitchers.

It all starts with starters.

I don't disagree, but this is replying to a different point to that which I was making.

List them.

List them? Really? Did you think this was made up. It was talked about all over the place at the time. It was talked about on MLB network, and it was talked about on ESPN just to name two of many places. The Red Sox were a laughing stock all throughout MLB. List them? Really?🙈🤭

Are you disputing the number 10? It was kept track of as it went along. Look at the reports. There are plenty of them out there.

A article in the Boston Herald 10-20-2023 that the number of candidates refusing an interview has now reached double digits. A can’t believe of all things this is being questioned? Wow! For what purpose?

Then why aren't you listing them if they are so easy to find?

I’ve given articles, so why don’t you go read them like the Boston Herald on 10-20-2023?

Sorry Red, this is a misunderstanding. I agree with your take on the CBO search. It made Sham's big talk look foolish. I wasn't questioning the number 10. mvp was asking for names, and those were the 4 I could think of.

If he was following along he would have already known the names. There was a running count at the time. Like I’ve asked of all things why question this?
