"There will be a day when we match up again on a high profile free agent deal" - Sam the Sham Kennedy

When Sam says he needs to do a better job, I'm confused. Is he involved in any way in player procurement? Or does he just participate in front office hirings and firings?

Can he be a better liar? Fans still pay lots of money to fill Fenway...

Can he be more honest? Last night's candor may have actually lost the team a few bucks... (finally admitting what we've all known for years is more offensive than just leveling with us when the rebuild began).

The Sox FO is one of the biggest clown shows in sports these days. We keep saying it, and they keep proving it. The melange of mixed messages we have received about payroll the last few days has been incredible.

Sam's "There will be a day" line is a new highlight for me. It's like his version of "I have a dream"...

Headline on MLB.com: "Red Sox Prioritizing Patience..."

Spelling Incorrect -- they meant "Red Sox Prioritizing PATIENTS" ... because this whole offseason has been giving fans headaches and agita.

Yes, I've become a homophone... but I'm not homophonic (though I did go back to a dumb flip phone, because the smart phone was haunted, ghosting random contacts any time it detected body heat).

I suspect Gammons's theory will be proven to be true. There's something going on on in a financial way with FSG that we don't know about and that has a lot to do with the payroll trimming.

He confirms the Sox will have a payroll less than last year then says “we understand the boos, it’s on us to fix it.” Bad baseball and higher prices may make it an ugly season.

Spending Sox money on development around Fenway, not the team itself.

It’s going to come back to haunt them when they don’t have the foot traffic because they’ve neglected the big league team.

Which means, they might actually freak out when fans stop attending games.

It’ll be visiting fans filling up the stadium (at a lesser capacity) and they won’t give a s***.

I'm still not so sure Brez or Bloom didn't sign on for exactly what we've seen them experience. These guys are too smart to be duped; they knew what they were agreeing to when they took the job -- for which they are well-compensated. I don't feel sorry for anyone in that front office.

I think there is a lot of truth, here, but I do think “messages” or plans seem to change on a dime. From what happened to DD, it looks like the CBO is often left in the dark

Ok but then what?

They can Breslow? That’ll fix it!!

That’s fine for Yankee games, Mets games and Philly games. But when there are 16,000 in the stands for Thursday night against Pittsburgh, then what? Blame the Pirates fan as for not being willing enough to travel?

Everytime I hear the front office / ownership saying to describe their plans and strategies.... I always walk away thinking, "You just described minor leagues? That's what your AA, and AAA teams are for, that's where every team is patiently developing and leaning on promising prospects?". Stop pretending it's an either / or scenario and expect me to think you are using some novel strategy. Every team that is trying to put quality, win-now, pro rosters together, have not stopped using their minor league teams to develop players for the future.

Anything's can happen, who knows. Plenty of teams have had miracle type runs in spite of poor management.... But ownerships words are simple garbage. Winning is no priority to them at this stage.

Agreed.

They need to have a minor league plan. That’s fine.

They also need to realize many fans don’t care about that and it shouldn’t be the focal point of the message. A plan for the minors should be like your middle name; we all know you have one but we don’t need to know what it is.

Unless it’s Leslie…

Sam said on TV it's all on Brez whether Cora comes back after this season.

Cora said on TV that "We sucked the past two years, two last places."

Good for him for not paying attention to posters that insisted the Sox were fifth-best in the best division in baseball history, even with some of the worst starting pitching and defense in Red Sox history.

It’ll work for a few years due to the allure of Fenway, but they’ll get under 30k average in the next few years if they continue to not put money in.

Werner on NESN with @TomCaron

"Too focused on two words (full throttle). You're a journalist, you know, that's a little overblown. Full Throttle is the way I live my own life, it's my mantra. I don't accept mediocrity, we as a group don't accept mediocrity."

We’re too focused on two words (wins, losses).

So, we and journalists were supposed to know he meant his personal outlook not the Sox.

Tom- liar or dillusional. Your team should pray to be one mediocre. Or did he mean that as a means to not accepting mediocrity they chose sucking instead?

I vote delusional, but he is also knowingly telling falsehoods, so he’s lying, because he knows they have and still are accepting mediocrity.

Should we all agree to drop the “full throttle” stuff now and maybe focus instead on how he allegedly doesn’t accept mediocrity?

I can accept 78-84 as meeting the definition of mediocre. The problem, apparently, is Werner thinks this team just isn’t mediocre enough to get concerned about…

First we'd have to unravel the riddle of WTF "accept" means in this context.

To be a good bullshitter you have to know how to be vague and ambiguous, to say things that can be interpreted any number of ways and let the listener tie themselves in knots trying to decipher it.

Ownership has a long term plan that will change at a moment’s notice.

It’s fine as long as they find a CBO who can do the job, of which the duties include the making it to the postseason, with no exceptions or excuses, and doing so with the following criteria:

1. No sacrificing the farm to build the parent club, as this is the pipeline to the future.

2. No sacrificing the parent club to build the farm, as the whole purpose of the farm is to support the parent club and not the other way around.

3. Trim payroll.

And above all - no excuses! Any and all excuse makers will be throttled fully!

I could accept 78-84 back in the early 1960’s, but not no more. I watched the least amount of Red Sox games last year since I had gotten NESN, which was many, many years ago, because of the product on the field, and having to listen to the Yuckers in the booth trying to describe it. It could be even less this year. I’ll probably go to more games in Portland, but the Red Sox will just be further back on the back burner.

In this case, I think it means “relent and give in to.” You know, like what people on their deathbeds do eventually…

Yes, we know. You stopped watching when the team got good for a while…
