Unless their owner goes all John Henry and they don’t extend Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson and instead trade both away for some futuristic version of Jeter Downs…

The O's new owner said they wouldn't do anything crazy until after they win 4 championships.

FWIW Henry also did that after winning a world series, when is the last time the O's won one? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have their 26 man any day of the week right now.

Also, at the time Mookie Betts had one year of team control left, Henderson has 5. Also, at the time of the trade MLB had him as a top 50 prospect in all of baseball. I think most rational fans, of any team, aside from being justly angry at trading away a star player would be happy with a return of a top 50 prospect for one year of team control in a guy.

The next team who trades away a star on the cusp of FA who won't resign there and gets a top 50 guy in return might end up trading for a future MVP. You just don't know. Predicting human beings futures is hard, although I heard some ladies will look into a crystal ball and tell you the future if you pay them money. Might be a scam....not sure.

I have no proof of that , but it's a big country. Pretty sure there are a few who think so. It's good that we both made it through another winter anyway.

Syracuse had the mildest winter in recent history, but it's always good to survive winter. Glad you did, also.

The more you pay them, the better your future. Btw, very good post.

I discovered recently that the opening day average ticket price at Dodger stadium was $532.00. So I'm guessing hot dogs and beer prices s/b close to $100.00. The mustard is free, though. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

Unless you want Dijon, which is $27.50…

How much is parking these days?

Impressed with the first game and win -- especially how everyone in the line-up seemed to contribute in some way.

Surprise new-guy take-aways:

O'Neill looks really comfortable in right field, cruising back to casually catch a few blasts that seemed like they'd be serious trouble for last year's outfielders. Verdugo was good, but O'Neill and Rafaela exude confidence, and the outfield may be the most improved defensive unit.

On the mound, Campbell looks really hard to hit -- his sweeper has an action that is sharper than any others I've seen. Trading a platoon infielder for him looks like a coup for Breslow.

Ignoring health, O'Neilll isn't much of a step down from Verdugo, who was vastly overrated IMO.

I like Campbell too. I don't know any Mariner's fan who thought the Urias trade was a good deal.

Fun game to watch last night. I think O'Neil is a clear step forward on Verdugo as long as he's able to stay on the field. But after seeing the veins pulsing in his neck in the after-game interview last night, nobody can tell me he hasn't had some, um, help building that physique!

Maple syrup and Canadian bacon. That dude is about as Canadian as Terry Fox.

It's kind of a shock to see the Red Sox with such a young team all of a sudden.

It's like 2015 all over again.

Per J. P. Long @SoxNotes:

This is only the 4th time in the DH era that all 10 players starting for the Red Sox on Opening Day are 31 years old or younger (1995, 1998, 2003, 2024).

They went on to reach the Postseason in each of the previous 3 seasons it happened.

2003 wouldn't have worked if Mueller started instead of Hillenbrand.

It's great. Last night was the most I've enjoyed a game in a while. We're way short of where we would like to be, but they seem to really like each other as a group, so I'll take the hope (again) for now.

I hope Martin and Jansen stay healthy so we can get good pieces for them at the deadline and further add to the young core.

Not me, I hope we need 'em for the postseason.

he (Campbell) played for the Arkansas Razorbacks and then the Mariners AA farm team in Little Rock. i've seen him pitch many many times. as a Razorback and Red Sox fan, you wouldn't believe how excited i was when we got him.

I will assume sarcasm, but I haven't been by much in the last few weeks, so if this isn't glib, I am beyond impressed by your redemption arc.

And by impressed, I mean a little worried.

Probably just riding the Game 1 high? Nobody here has projected playoffs or anything above .500 for that matter.

I have been, but it’s contingent on SP health and durability…
