This board has never gotten over the Springs trade. It's all we talk about.

We are doomed to lose every trade because of how well we did in the Heathcliff Slocumb deal.

Only if you give away a future Cy Young winner to the Yankees -- for a Danny Cater.

We also acquired Nathan Eovaldi, Don Baylor and Tony Armas Jr. (key component in the trade for Pedro) in intradivisional trades…

I thought the talk was about ALE trades. You always blast me for going off tangent.

The Heathcliff Slocumb trade for years has helped Red Sox fans forget the previous season's deadline trade of Jamie Moyer, who produced more WAR for his new team than any player involved in the Slocumb trade.

Win some, lose some.:D

Yes, VTek and Lowe never came close to what Moyer gave you guys for many many years, unless you count VTek's effect on our staff's ERA.

No love for Steve Pearce?

Baylor crunched the second-most important homer of the '86 postseason (Gm 6 ALCS)... it would've been third, if Hendu's extra-inning blast in Shea stood up...

... if only McNamara let Stapleton replace DON at first base; that's right, Baylor -- the AL pennant winners' leading HR man -- should've played 1B in the four NL games instead of the immobile Buckner (who batted third every game, led the Sox in at bats, and was last in the Series in slugging with a slothful .188).

There were others.

Frank Castillo, for example.

Mike Boddicker.

If breslow whiffs on signing starting pitching, what does our starting rotation look like in 2024

Breslow won't whiff on SP but the question is will he get the right SP[s}?? If he doesn't you can probably chalk up another last place finish in 2024. I hardly check in these days because it always takes FOREVER before FA signings get going. I fear the REAL pitching market doesn't begin until Yamamoto is signed and given he is not even being posted till I believe Nov 20th that will take us till at least the end on Nov-mid Dec before anything really happens. The whole MLB FA process is a joke.

Ohtani might be the first FA SP'er/DH signed.

Yama, Nola, Snell and Bauer are probably the next tier.

I doubt any one team gets 2 from this group of 5, so that's 5 big spending teams with a top SP'er in the fold. (NYM, NYY, PHI and maybe SFG and BOS?) Kershaw to LAD. Maybe LAD signs Kershaw and a top 5.

If BOS is not in on one of those top 5, I hope they get 2 from the the next two tiers (1 from the 2nd and 1 from the 3rd is probably the best we can hope for.):

The only one I can't see is Wacha. I know someone is already typing money and respect, but there should be at least a handful of decent clubs that will give him both, after his last two seasons.

But if you're a once-fragile starter looking for a good payday before your 30s catch up to you, would you choose to pitch in climes closer to a cold rainforest or always-sunny San Diego?

San Diego might not be spending big this offseason.

The Red Sox signing Wacha for a reasonable deal wouldn't be the worst news. Yamamoto and Wacha would be better news, of course.

I do not see Bauer being signed. Even outside of his "legal" issues the guy is a jerk and a bad team-mate

Wacha wanted 2 years $30mill last offseason and was rebuffed by at least half a dozen teams. Even San Diego only gave him a “prove it to me” deal. If Wacha is holding respect against teams, his list gets real small real fast…

I say 1 year - $20mill. With the Mets or Giants…

I doubt it will be the Mets, just because Bauer and NY are a potentially bad combination. SF would definitely be possible.

i almost guarantee if someone signs him it will be a 1 yr deal

I think several teams will be in on him, and o r will give 2 years or an option year with a hefty opt out.

Yeah but the Mets aren’t really a NY team. I mean, they play games there and use the name. But, like their rhyming counterparts the Jets and Nets (and the poorly named Islanders), no one cares about them unless they force the issue…

Good thing Bloom is gone. Bauer is exactly the kind of player he most favored: someone with just enough off-court issues (injury, legal problems, etc. ...) to allow you to delude yourself he's a bargain.
