Remember in Major League when Lou Brown watches Pedro crushing fastballs and wonders why he is hasn't been in the majors before. Then they start throwing him curves and Lou sees why. That's how it is with Alfaro before you see him play defense. Horrendous. Can't throw a lick.

Sox have 2 walks and 2 HBP's but NO HITS through 3. I contend that yesterday was an outlier and despite the 4 game win streak to date, they are still in an overall hitting funk in late June early July, featuring low power hitting .

This season Devers has been a 'guess' hitter. He guesses the pitcher will throw the ball and then he guesses he'll swing at it no matter where it is.

Winckowski is becoming consistent with giving up HR's. He did a tremendous job getting out of that one inning but he is not the same effective pitcher he was earlier in season.

I realize the need for Chang at SS as a plug while still waiting on Story. But at the MLB level he is an automatic out. BA of .140 and OPS at .493 . He even hurt his own hamate swinging a bat. Yu should be on a shortlist of guys who will be re-moved in the neasr future.

Glad that Devers does not waste his energy on the A-S game this year. He needs to refocus and pick his overall game up for the final 71 games and help Turner carry this team.

Not a lot of choices right now. Kike and Arroyo, maybe, but neither of them has hit this guy either. Chang at least has the good glove.

 

The simple fact is that Sears as pitched a whale of a game. 5 days ago he pitched 7.1 shutout innings vs. the Tigers.

Watching both Devers and Kike at this point in the season, I don't know what amazes me more; Devers' 69 RBI or Kike's 31 RBI?

Devers wasn't the SOX everyday player who was snubbed for the ASG. That would be the guy who normally plays RF.

He is utterly incapable of giving credit for anything any player on another team does. In his mind, every player on a bad team stinks.

 

I have no idea what he would have thought about Steve Carlton on the 72 Phillies.
