Is Arroyo all so bad at SS?

I've wondered why not try him at SS and Kike at 2B.

Not that it means anything, but right now Arroyo and Kike have the same DWAR: +0.1.

I thought we were all waiting for a proven SS Chang to return and now that he has we're talking about Arroyo at SS? Quit making me scrartch my head, because I barely have any hair left as it is. Chang should be the starting SS, imho, until Story returns.

I did not mean to imply I wanted Arroyo or Kike at SS over Chang. My statement was more about the past month or so, and why not use Arroyo not Kike when Chang sits.

Paxton is down to 2.73.

Between him and Duran, have we had a duo surprise like this, recently?

I'll take Bello, thank you, with his WAR of 2.9, 80 IP, etc.

But how many innings for each? WAR is a cumulative stat…

That must mean Kike is way better at 2B, because Kike's dWAR must be dragged down by his SS innings.

2B DRS

+1 Kike (104 innings)/ +19 career (1821 innings)

-1 Arroyo (351 inn.)/ +9 career in 1241 innings

UZR/150 shows Arroyo is better.

If Chang has one of those scheduled day's off, I guess Arroyo would be the better option. But I'm thinking if a secret poll was taken among the SOX pitchers, they'd all favor Chang playing as much as possible.

I didn't mean it as a comp.

I thought there was a good chance Bello would be very good, this year. I had very little hopes for Paxton.

I'm talking "surprises" not who is better or worth more.

Cora said before the game he didn’t think Chang should just step right in and play everyday…

No doubt. I'd vote Chang not resting one inning until Story returns.

Talk about the emergence of Duran all you want. But often, the arrival of a new player sparks the season.

Mark down July 8 as the turning point for the 2023 Red Sox -- the first game in Boston of... Aquaman.

great job by everybody but Kike. Paxton once again exceeding any expectations i had for him this year. considering how hard quality pitchers are to come by, i'd think long and hard about trading him right now. Duran also continues to exceed all expectations. who said he can't hit leftys?

That Chang didn't start at SS today probably makes everything positive I've posted about Chang meaningless, because it's still Cora's decision. I don't agree with it, but then, I don't agree with a lot of things.

He's pretty popular here in DR for his offensive contribiutions to the Licey Tigers. Kind of a superstar actually.

Why would the SOX trade Paxton? For a better pitcher? Who's better than Paxton right now? He was picked as AL pitcher of the month for June.

Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick... that's not the opening of 60 Minutes (but could be an omen for 60 days -- or less).

That's true for any pitcher, except maybe Nolan Ryan. It's always a gamble.

Nope. One bright Sox poster called him "Butterfly Man," and that's what has to stick.

Call him what you will, but I see him as good guy to have catching if the batter decides to charge the mound.

We have a real opportunity here. Two games out of a playoff spot now, and a pretty easy schedule the rest of the month. Chaim, you better go out and buy. How can you not? If we add 1 starter, Story only has to hit .250. We're not that far away from having what we need

i agree. i think some were speculating that he might be traded before the deadline.

Outstanding game by Duran. Solid start for Paxton.

But holy s*** are the A’s bad. Like I can’t believe this is an MLB team. They struggle with simple concepts like covering bases, catching pop ups and fielding grounders.

How did the A’s ever manage to have a 7 game winning streak?

Still predicting he gets traded.

Probably worth mentioning, when it comes to predicting Sox roster moves, I’m pretty sure I’m 0 for Bloom…

I legitimately don’t know. They beat some pretty good teams during that streak also.

I don't care if Kike's woebegone +0.1 is based on 9000 freaking innings because it's a plus not a minus, which makes him an average defender--15 errors notwithstanding.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, this discussion is because of his errant throw on a difficult play in the very same half inning in which Walter hit the 2d batter--who later scored--to put him on base and then later didn't even cover first base on a routine grounder which should have been the 3d out.

Plus the Sox won the game 10-3. I'm more than happy to agree Chang is the best defensive SS available, but I'm darned if I'm going to dump on Cora because of what happened in the 8th inning. Walter owns that "unearned" run lock, stock, and barrel. But he also pitched 3 pretty decent innings, so I'm fine if he pitches again for the Sox.

I guess a lot of the trade decision making will depend obviously on where the SOX sit at the TDL. If they're still in the PO picture at that time, I would hope they wouldn't trade Paxton. It wouldn't make any sense, but often, when has good sense ever been a factor?

And boy oh boy was he wrong. Without Chang at SS the Sox had no chance today.

You mean lefties on a pitching staff with a collective ERA of 6.01, of course.
