Astounding play by Wong to start that double play by throwing to 2d base. I doubt that that particular double play--home to 2d to 1st--is made even once per season in MLB.

That was a big play.

Kike made a nice play, too- and throw.

While Dalbec himself will not bring a significant player in a heads up trade, he could be the icing on the cake for a starter from a team needing DH or 1B help to finish the season. He is cheap and showing the ability to go on a tear albeit at AAA level. At his age, his only other possibility is a DFA or a non roster ST invite next year....OR what if the Sox unfortunately suffer an injury to Casas or Turner or heaven help us Devers requiring a shuffling of Turner to 3B .

His stock has gone up, some, but he's hit well in the minors, before.

Some team will want him, but he can't field for jack, and he struggles on his splits in the bigs.

What is interesting about him is that teams out of it might trade for him to fill a future need, but also some team in the race might also want him as a platoon Dh/1B option and 3B depth.

Sox have tried all season to deal him. They’ve had no takers. If they have one now, the return will be meager at best.

The next couple of weeks will be interesting to see. I say this as so far this team has been hot and cold. There's already been a couple times this where it seemed this team would take off and then a bad streak occurred. Hopefully there will be no repeat now

Any trade that includes Dalbec's can likely be made without him. His struggles at the MLB level are not a secret, and his glove didn’t make up for it. That he requires a 40 man roster spot doesn’t help his appeal.

He can be dealt to a team looking for a platoon DH/1b type that’s Ona budget. And he can get back a contract dump or an A ball longshot. The only points in his favor are his track record against LHP and his league minimum salary…

Wil Myers just got DFAd.

Myers is the better hitting/fielding version of Dalbec and once he clears waivers, can be had for the league minimum. This does not help any attempt to unload Dalbec…

So Dalbec isn't quite in the same position as Rusney Castillo was, but he's not far from it...

Rusney would have been in MLB but for his salary. The man played elite OF defense…

But for his salary and an arcane loophole in the luxury tax code that was closed especially for him...

It is odd on the same thread, Dalbec is a viable trade candidate but the better all around player in Gallo - only 20 months older - is proof there are too many teams in MLB…

Dalbec will set no such precedent

The last thing I come here for is logic. :D

Gallo's wRC+ this year is higher than Dalbec's 2021. Bobby bottomed out in 2022 and I just am not impressed by watching a 28 year old mash in AAA, especially one who has a 34% k rate.

Dalbec is older than Verdugo and Devers. He's not a young guy. There isn't a lot of meat on that bone.

That’s why I said he can get you a contract dump or an A ball longshot.

Frankly, I’d take a short term contract dump as long as it can pitch and doesn’t rhyme with Laurie Tuber…

I have to say the Kluber save is one of the most horrific statistics that shouldn't be recorded (automatic rule on last 3 innings) in the history of MLB. You should not get rewarded for getting bombed.

If we're really going to address the Kluber in the room, then let's not deny him his save. If you ask Buxton, Lewis and Kepler, they just may acknowledge he saved their night by serving them all meatballs.

Interesting excursion into Dalbec territory: no good slot for him at Boston; plus he probably won't be able to hit MLB pitching even though he is tearing up AAA.

Meanwhile, the Sox are winning--with good hitting and pitching and even defense--without Story, Sale, Houck, Chang, Schreiber, et al.

Why aren't those guys missed more? In game 1 vs the Twins, Duran led off and hit three doubles, one that drove in two key runs, and was promptly removed for a pinch hitter, Refsnyder, because the Twins had a lefty on the mound. Ref walked, and Dugo hit a 3 run double to seal that win.

And last night, game 2, Duran didn't even play while the Sox won 10-4. Nor did Reyes, the current fav of talksoxers to play SS (until Chang or Story returns). Instead, it was nasty Kike, the people's non-choice, who was part of a very nifty double play, home to 2b to 1b.

Did I forget to mention that Crawford got his first win (5 IP, 0 runs) since April 9? Kluber went 3, giving up 4 runs, and got credit for a save!!

Myers is a good comparison for saying Dalbec has virtually no value , certainly not by himself. In fact, at next to no value, why would Bloom give him away, except if needed to clear a roster spot for some other multi-player trade deal.

Totally absurd, but it's just another example that Wins, Losses and Saves are essentially garbage stats.

Dalbec might be able to hit MLB pitching given another chance, but at the moment the Red Sox just don't have room to give him that chance.

Hopefully he does get another shot somewhere at some point.

I kind of disagree. Yes, it seems absurd. On the other hand, those 3 innings did in fact “save” other bullpen arms. Kluber was useful.

And he fattened a few of the Twins' averages in the process. He was everybody's pal last night! :D

Indeed, it would seem the front office can now justify keeping him around just for blow-outs, and consider his $10 million salary as an insurance premium to preserve the rest of the staff for more meaningful, high leverage innings this summer.

I'm not defending Bloom, who would probably admit Kluber (whose WAR is currently -0.8) was a mistake. I'm alluding to Cora's ability to get some use out of Kluber.

Very happy to see Sox on a roll. This will save a lot of jobs, including the Bloomster.

I don't know what they have been feeding these guys lately but it works, double it up. Yankee sweep was the best, they are still crying couldn't be any better
