Every assessment of pitching vs hitting emphasizes Strike 1 as a major differentiator in the AB outcome. Any pitcher looking for a nice career ( 5years or more) must have control and command to overcome the situations they find themselves in. When you get a clean inning start, like Crawford just did, then you cannot walk the first 2 guys. Maybe he should have pitched last night.

Nothing a DP wouldn't cure

3-2 with 2 outs in the 6th . Both runs scored are walks. Crawford pulled, so now both Crawdad and Winck are burned in the same game. But no complaints because this one is the one to win . It's the one the Sox are playing.

Winckowski reinforces the point about throwing strikes or apparent strikes out of the hand. The same guy he K'ed to end the 6th, hit the Grannie last night

I am wonderin why not pitch Winckowski at the start?

We need to win this game. Up 3-1, let Winckowski pitch 3 innings then our closer?

Now we have wasted 2 long guys.

Do our people have any clue running a baseball team?

Crawford has been damn good.

I think the idea was he'd be damn good, tonight, and we could use Wink, tomorrow. Maybe the match-ups looked better for Crawford, but it just did not work out.

Maybe our pen mounds are the wrong height.

Can't help but think about Cora's postgame analysis for tonight. He will assure us Paxton had a solid start--unlike that dirtbag last night--because the pitched 5 magnificent innings vs. Bello's spindly, worthless 4 innings last night. Both gave up 1 run, but Paxton is the ace, the star, the gutsy veteran. And Bello's just a rookie hoping to hang on.

Bello, having watched Crawford screw up royally, can find consolation in the notion that Crawford would have stunk as much last night as he did tonight--and would certainly have been no better than Garza.

The real difference between last night and tonight? Tonight the lineup scored 3 runs for Paxton vs. 0 runs for Bello.

That's pure 20-20 hindsight.

Was Cora supposed to just know that Crawford wouldn't have it tonight?

Our people do, but we're not so sure about the guys who run the Red Sox...

Funny how I see exactly zero posts by any of our armchair managers criticizing going to Crawford when he first came in.

There is no reason to object to Crawford coming in when he did. But there is plenty of room to question Crawford's ability to throw strikes ( or equivalents) if that is his job as a middle reliever . Cora did what he had to do if he was actually managing this game and didn't hesitate. Crawford did not have it, and AC saw that the game was at risk. He didn't know Winck would be successful, but he sensed that Crawford was not right.

Now, they'll bitch about brining Wink in, too.

Damnable, incompetent Winck , and Devers too, can nobody here play this game ( C. Stengel) . LOL

I agree with Cora's moves last night and with the ones tonight.

The problem is that bullpen stunk last night without Winck and Crawford and stinks again tonight with Winck and Crawford.

Now 5-3, Reds. Any bets on whether the their bullpen shuts our lineup down?

Go for the DP, give up the tie, screw Paxton out of a win after his excellent start . Cora will never manage again at the MLB level. Strictly AAAA thinking. Winkc looks like a jerk giving up the lead and allowing an HR. Just a mistake on pitch location says Wake. A true f***up on the error and the HR

Here comes the hammer. We will need at least six runs to win this.

You are now very much correct ! It will take 6 to win

Winck and Crawford have both been good many times this season. Just not tonight.

And bad pitching and bad offense….I think that covers it

3 runs should be plenty against one of the worst offenses in the league.

Every manager in the history of MLB would have gone for the double play with the bases loaded and no one freaking out.

Bases loaded nobody out you try and get out of the inning minimizing the damage. Turning 2 is the correct play there. In 20-20 hindsight, it saved 2 runs. Get one out at the plate at the plate and the homer isn't a 2-run shot, it's a grand slam.
