On Correa per MLBTR...

Jon Heyman of the New York Post clarifies the vesting provisions for Correa’s options (Twitter link). Correa would need 575 plate appearances in 2028 to automatically vest his $25MM option for the 2029 season. That number drops to 550 in 2029 (in order to vest his 2030 option), 525 in 2030 (to vest his 2031 option) and 502 in 2031 (to vest his 2032 option). The Athletic’s Dan Hayes tweets that the Twins can still pick up any of the club options on Correa if he doesn’t meet the criteria for plate appearances. Correa will also have a full no-trade clause, per Heyman.

Makes me wonder why the Mets did not offer something like this.

Miguel Rojas traded to Dodgers

That was one guy I thought would be a nice one year bridge to Mayer. Good defense (second at SS w the Fielding Bible.)

Oh well.

If Andrus is holding out for three years he could be getting two year deals with slightly higher AAV but not enough to entice him to a 2 year deal.

Maybe we can sign him to a 2 year deal with a team option third year, but put a $6 million buyout in it. That way we can pay him a little bit more money for effectively two years but keep the AAV down a bit.

Just do what it takes. 2 is better than 3, but if it takes 3, do it.

A two year deal with a club option for the 3rd year and moderate buyout should get it done.

Leave out any no trade clause.

BTV rates the trade as

6.5 Coffey

5.9 Duran

5.6 Lugo

5.6 Walter

5.0 Jordan

5.0 Paulino

Perhaps the Red Sox can reprise the Texas middle infield from this 2013 game between the Rangers and the Sox:

Elvis Andrus and Jurickson Profar are remaining free agents but Profar's defensive metrics at second base are not encouraging:

I'd be thinking of...

FA:

SS: Andrus, Iggy, Simmons

CF: Duvall

Trade: (BTV Value/yrs)

SS: A Rosario 10.8/1, J Mateo 3.2/3, A Mondesi 1.5/1, Kiner-Falefa 0.8/1, B Crawford-0.7/1, N Ahmed -5.9/1, P DeJong -7.1/3, J Baez -14.4/5

2B: Wendle 2.5/1 and many others

CF: M Taylor 2.8/1 and many others

This just in on MLBtraderumors.com/boston-red-sox: Sterling Sharp is back! The Sox re-signed him!

Did you know he had departed... "after a brief first trip to minor league free agency."

Did you even know he arrived before that... "The 27-year-old had spent the tail end of the 2022 campaign in the Boston organization."

Depth. Load up on those depth charges... Ka-bloom.

I am glad that he is back, even though I didn’t know that he had left and I didn’t know that we had him at all.

He was a better football player.

International signing period starts soon. Red Sox linked to cepedes.

It’s been called international signing day. Others have referred to it as the international day of joy. Jan. 15 is officially known as the first day of the international signing period and it means everything to the prospects from across the globe who sign during the 11-month span. For these

Some targets for Bloom:

Mark Melancon - near 5 ERA and -1 WAR

TJ McFarland 7 ERA -1 WAR

Sergio Romo 7.55 ERA -0.8 WAR

All fit a Chaim bloom bullpen and I think he’ll target them all

No, nope, no. All are bums.

So, we'll get #25 and no other top 50's.

Hmmm...

Another SS. Can't have enough of them.

I'm fine with that. Most of the best young players are put at the hardest position: SS.

They don't end up there, often enough.

Plus, by the time this guy b ecomes ML ready, Mayer will be close to the end of his team control.

We'll take a guy who earns 35 career WAR, wins an LCS MVP, and bats .294 over 15 MLB seasons.

The funny thing is that teenager Cespedes is a shortstop, and Kendrick played the following positions in the majors: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, LF, CF, DH.

If he can hit, he can play somewhere...
