Columnist Ken Rosenthal at The Athletic on the J.D. Martinez signing:

Martinez’s agent, Scott Boras, pointed to the slugger’s relationship with his former Red Sox teammate, Mookie Betts, and Dodgers hitting instructor Robert Van Scoyoc, who helped Martinez revamp his swing after the 2013 season.

Martinez went for not only less than Turner, but also Josh Bell (two years, $33 million), Michael Brantley (one year, $12 million) and Joey Gallo (one year, $11 million).

“(Dodgers president of baseball operations) Andrew Friedman and Mookie were like college coaches seeking the big recruit,” Boras said. “J.D. was fully aware of the recent signings and took $6 million to $7 million below his value.

“He wanted to win and he wanted to (optimize his ability). He felt the Dodgers were the best team to help him achieve those goals. He made them fully aware he has every intention to play well and seek his true value in the seasons ahead.”

No gaffe at all. I know what I was saying, and the ridiculous DH statement was not long ago. Just because you like to play gotcha it works both ways.

You simply don't understand English. I'm convinced.

I was calling notin's ridiculous statement a "gaffe."

I knew you'd fall back on claiming what you said had it's own special meaning only to you. For whatever reason, you can never just say, "That is not what I meant."

Post 2353 (iortiz): Bloom is hiring only wounded old dogs. Going to be a long season again.

Post 2355 (you): Already did with Pax, and Frail.

There is no alternative meaning, here. Words have meanings. You responded directly to a post about Bloom hiring "wounded old dogs" and claimed Bloom hired "Frail."

"I know what I'm saying" is a cop out. Just fess up, for once in your life. You made a mistake. We all do. There is no shame in saying I messed up or even, I did not mean it that way. You can't even do that.

The main difference in the "gotcha game" you call it, is that when you call us out for making a mistake, we admit it. That does not stop you from b ringning them up, over and over, but once someone admits to a mistake, bring it up again and again seems futile or juvenile.

I don't even recall the Devers DH statement, but it does sound ridiculous, if he said it that way, but I'm not sure what that has to do with you saying Bloom hired Frail.

This was my post in response to moon’s Should Bloom bring back our wounded, and old dogs. NOWHERE does it say that I said Bloom signed Sale. I said he brought him back. Bring someone back is not signing him.

How would he have gotten rid of him without eating the vast majority of his salary?

He couldn’t, and I didn’t say he could, but only that the Red Sox already had old, and injured players coming back, and didn’t mean anything more than that. It wasn’t meant to have any deep meaning to it.

He didn’t “bring him back.” There was no choice. The only option for Bloom would be to DFA him, which would be the worst option.

Really, he didn’t even bring back Paxton. Paxton exercised a player option. He brought himself back…

You guys are going way to deep on this, but THE FACT still remains I never said Bloom signed Sales, which you, and your heel tag team partner said I did.

You did say he brought him back, right? Like there was a choice.

Paxton did exercise his option and made the choice, but at least abloom gave him the option. I can see that connection. Sale is inherited deadweight so far…

Per BTV:

Sale SP to the ChiSox

Moncada 2B to the Red Sox

Well, Moncada at least plays once in a while.

But somehow I think the White Sox might not welcome Sale back with open arms. His departure was rather dramatic…

Like I keep saying you guys are going way to deep on this, but you are deflecting the fact that I NEVER SAID Bloom signed Frail. I already knew Bloom, had no choice, but to bring them back. You make it sound like you discovered some new info, and nobody new Pax exercised his option. Stop deflecting that there was NEVER a Bloom singed Sale post. All of this silliness on a wrong notion.

It would be pretty funny if we traded Sale back to CWX for Moncada and Yoan finally hits his stride at 28.

Unlikely

Method #2: When exposed, accuse the one who exposed you of over analyzing or "going way too deep."

You answered a post about Bloom hiring "wounded old guys" by saying, "He already did" with Paxton and Frail. That only has one meaning. It doesn't take diving deep to understand what it means.

He certainly hates clarifications…

He thinks because he did not come out and say "Bloom signed Frail," other words ,can't mean the same thing.

Hire = sign when it comes to players.

Bloom only hires wounded old guys is what iortiz wrote.

Red responds "already has" mean Bloom and meaning "hired" or signed Paxton and Frail.

It's very simple to understand the meaning without "diving deep."

All Red has to say is that is not what I meant to say, but instead he insists his words don't hold the meaning they do.

Then, he flips it back on those who do understand English by saying it is "silliness on a wrong notion." Watching him try to wiggle out of absurd statements is more entertaining than the original absurd statements.

A locksmith? He'd ask his brother to do it, but it would take them a few months to get around to actually doing it. That's how I was always able to get back in. Some say they are still working on the basement renovation to this day...

Ottavino sings for $14.5M/2.

Plus 90% tax.

And the Mets are also looking at trading for Liam Hendriks.

Remember the talk on the Kike $10M extension and "other options?"

Now, we can see what "other options" ended up getting:

$9M/1 Kiermaier

$11M/1 Gallo

$12M/1 Brantley

$17.5M/1 Bellinger

$19/7M/1 Pederson

$43.5M/3 Haniger

$75M/5 Beni

Brantley is a relative bargain, if healthy.
