You had to figure that the Mets would go hard after Verlander after losing deGrom. Bloom is at the San Diego Zoo with his family today, because our rotation is solid.

They weren't signing deGrom or Verlander.

You only make a deal like that if you are ready to go for it all, and the Red Sox are a long ways away from that. Getting out of last place in the Div will be hard enough.

So do you think the Rangers - who won 10 fewer games than Boston and finished 38 games behind Houston - were ready to go for it?

No the Rangers aren’t ready, but the Red Sox aren’t the Rangers, and the Rangers have a owner who doesn’t care what he spends, and I think Henry now does plus those were longer term deals, and Verlander’s was a short deal for a good team better than the Red Sox.

I won't

I'll be more upset if we way overpay for him than passing on him.

This is not the season to just sign one of the better FA SP'ers just because we need one.

Turner to Phillies somewhere around 11/$300M! Go DD!

My kinda deal! (I'd have gone $310/12! LOL.)

Wonder why DD didn't want Bogey instead for maybe 2/3 the cost.

DD likes the prime cuts. Now he has an owner who feels the same way.

Turner is better than Bogey. If the owner will pay, you sign the better player.

That was supposed to be the Xander landing spot...

Apparently there's other teams interested. I think with this deal he's going to be sitting at 225 Mil easily

This is crazy, I didn't realize Turner was 29 years old. He's only ONE year older than Bogey.

No.

Bogaerts: 10/1/92

Turner: 6/30/93

Only if he is also free to fill other gaps by spending enough, but yes, if the owners says spend, you spend..

He was the backup for the Twins if Correa goes elsewhere and maybe for the Diamondbacks. LA was maybe mentioned. Padres only wanted him if he could move off SS.

Sorry I meant Bogey was only one year older

Got it.

11 years is a LONG contract.

I like Turner, but YEEEESH...

You kind of hope Judge stays in NY now, because if the rumors are true they plan on entering the SS market if he walks makes things dicey.

I’d assume either they are LA sign Correa, which means we have to outbid Minnesota, San Diego, Chicago, and one of LA/NY for Bogaerts/Swanson

And between those two….I want Bogaerts

I hope the Yanks cripple their budget by signing Judge.

I don't see them ever becoming the Dodgers East, so overpaying Judge will restrict their signings for many, many years.

I had hoped we'd spend the $80M on 3-4 slots not 5-6, but we are running out of options on 3 for $80M, unless we sign Judge (zero chance) or Correa (very slim chance.)

Will we trade for high contracts?
