notin Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 The Red Sox are exploring the pitching market early, putting out feelers on both starters and relievers. Two starters they are poking around on early, according to sources, are right-hander Seth Lugo and lefty Andrew Heaney. C'mon, man! It does seem like Heaney is garnering a lot of interest early for some reason…
mvp 78 Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 It does seem like Heaney is garnering a lot of interest early for some reason… The world is testing my patience this week, that's why...
mvp 78 Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Andrew Heaney: Exit Velo: bottom 2% in 2022 Hard Hit %: bottom 1% in 2022 He gets a lot of k's, but gets hit hard and gets injured. Not a recipe for success in my book.
5GoldGlovesOF,75 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 It does seem like Heaney is garnering a lot of interest early for some reason… Attention, all Billy beancounters and Rays wayward sons: the holiday Heaney Special can be found in the clear bin at the end of the pitching aisle... please don snorkels and swim goggles... do not stop at the green bin on the top shelf!

With Sale and Paxton already on board and Eovaldi in process, adding Heaney only figure to be more of the same problem rather than a solution…

moonslav59 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Bloom could sell me on a lot of FA options, but Heaney isn't one of them. In all honesty, did he "sell" you on Wacha, Hill and Strahm? I know some here tried to convince me Diekman was a good risk signing.

I know some here tried to convince me Diekman was a good risk signing. Hill, yes. Strahm, didn't care. Wacha, wasn't a lot of money. Heaney is going to get more than he got last year, 1/8.5. If he was going to get 1/7, it wouldn't be a big deal to me.
moonslav59 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Contreras declines QO. M Perez accepts QO.
Old Red Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 He might be off chasing whales again. Thanks for asking, but it’s not whale season anymore.
Old Red Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 I think you scared him off the site. Scared off the site? After all we’ve been through, and you think I’d walk out on you guys? When Bloom does something noteworthy good, or bad I’ll give my fair, and balanced opinion as always.
notin Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Bloom could sell me on a lot of FA options, but Heaney isn't one of them. What if it was something radical like using Heaney as a closer?
moonslav59 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 What if it was something radical like using Heaney as a closer? Will that improve his K rate and hard hit ball%?

You praised the Wacha, Strahm, Schreiber and Refsnyder additions as much as you criticized the JBJ trade. I have to agree with you, on this.
moonslav59 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Joc Pederson accepts QO. Angels- Tyler Anderson agree to $39M/3 after QO was offered.
mvp 78 Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 What if it was something radical like using Heaney as a closer? That's the ONLY thing that makes sense if you look at his statcast. Use him like Andrew Miller. I'm not sure that's what the Sox have suggested though.
moonslav59 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Word is only Pederson and Perez accepted their QOs.

notin Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 I still don't see him recording many outs in any role. The issues with Heaney aren’t so much talent as they are durability…
mvp 78 Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Will that improve his K rate and hard hit ball%? It did last year. His k rate went up a little, but his hard hit % skyrocketed. SSS tho.
mvp 78 Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Well if you and I could figure out that’s true best way to use him, why do you think the Sox couldn’t? Maybe they are just "interested" and not going to actually sign him?
moonslav59 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Rizzo to re-sign with Yanks. 2 year deal with option.
Hugh2 Verified Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 The issues with Heaney aren’t so much talent as they are durability… One wonders if he could be more durable in shorter stints out of the pen. If it works, he has the stuff to be one of the best closers in the game. Not sure if he’s be open to the move, but with the way closers get paid nowadays and his track record as a starter….maybe?
mvp 78 Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Rizzo to re-sign with Yanks. 2 year deal with option. How could Bradenton Bloom let this happen?
mvp 78 Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 @JasonRRMartinez Updated Los Angeles Angels projected roster/depth chart/payroll: •SP Tyler Anderson agreed to 3-yr, $39MM contract.
5GoldGlovesOF,75 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Eovaldi's agent must have some reassurance that a club is willing to give him a Ty Anderson-type 3-year contract, plus a draft pick. Is Anderson a good Nate comp? Both will be 33 in '23... Here are bb-ref career 162-game averages: Anderson 10-10, 4.16, 33 starts, 189 IP N. Eovaldi 10-10, 4.16, 33 starts, 186 IP Looks like Ty can go longer...
