Bring your brooms for the sweep up of the Pirates.

Josh Winckowski trying to get his own record above .500 (5-5) vs J. Brubaker bravely sporting a 2-10 record with 4.45 ERA, slightly better than Winky's 4.69.

With Boston's win yesterday the entire AL East is back to .500++ once again. There is no division where almost half your schedule ( 76 games) is played against this level of competition. When you add in out of division games , over 50% of your games will be vs winning record teams.

Red Sox, don't take today's game for granted while looking forward to the Orioles this weekend. Win today and travel to Baltimore for a showdown.

Note that this was Eovaldi's start but his trapezius tightened up, so Winckowski gets to go.

It seems Kike's condition was not just a hip flexor but a much more serious condition, including internal bleeding, that did affect him from ST into June. Certainly would be a gain if he can come around now.

Nate may just be getting "old' and stiff, but we still need him for his share of the next 44 games.

The Sox do have a stronger bench/PH group today with Hosmer, Refsnyder, and Kike available. Oh , and Plawecki too

Cubs already beat the O's today, so you could say that this game in Pittsburg is of some meaning. Hard to tell after two turns at bat.

Yeah

We need to lose this game to remain in last place and maintain our good draft position

Brubaker is 2-10 , not highly meaningful except that the Pirates lose a lot. But the Slobovian manages to Cy Young the Sox and find time to pop Bogaerts in the arm.

Some Pirate players were quoted in the paper about being upset that Eck called them a no name offense. I don't remember their names.

Eck is an idiot. Calling them "no names" only pisses them off. Plus he seems oblivious to the glaring reality that the Sox name guys--Raffy, Bogey, and JDM, all of whom were on the All-Star Team--are in fact hitting like no names.

Eck knows a whole lot more baseball than I could ever hope to, but it's stupid to insult guys.

The guy pitching tonight is not a 2-10, 4.50 ERA guy. He’s had a 3 or 4 games similar to this this season, but this guy doesn’t show up very often. He has tonight.

Apparently you didn't get my joke.

And, everything Eck said was true, he is no idiot. Even the Pirate announcer agreed the lineup has players no one has heard of.

The SOX aren't built like a broom, so they're really not a 'sweeping' team. They're more or less modeled after a Hoover, so they're more closely related to a 'sucking' team.

Have to appreciate bringing household items into a study of the psychology of this team

Winckowski’s had far more affect on the Pirate’s O than anything Eck said.

Clint Eastwood portrayed a 'man with no name' and kicked some serious ass.

7K's out of 15 outs, but we do have Dugo's single , so there's that. Give Brubaker credit. He is showing up on a night when the Sox may not .

Tonight the Sox are up to their old tricks--can't hit, can't pitch, can't field, and can't run the bases.

And they are doing this against a team who last their last 6 games and are 6-18 since the All-Star break.
