Clint Eastwood portrayed a 'man with no name' and kicked some serious ass.

Actually, I often think of the entire Rays roster as no names--except that they signed Wander Franco to a pretty big contract. My guess is that Eck considers any player making less than $20M/year to be a no name guy.

And last year the no name Rays had the most wins in the American League.

And when a Rays' player does establish a name, the Rays trade him for more 'no names.'

The guy pitching tonight is not a 2-10, 4.50 ERA guy. He’s had a 3 or 4 games similar to this this season, but this guy doesn’t show up very often. He has tonight.

Too bad the Red Sox didn’t

I'm mostly blaming Cora for tonight's debacle--with that disaster of a lineup he came up with. What the heck are those no-hit wonders Devers, Bogaerts, and JD Martinez doing in the game?

The SOX 2022 total payroll is 208 million. The Pirates total payroll is 66 million, so one could argue that the Pirates are getting more 'bang for the buck.'

But they don't have $63 million of unproductive payroll , so you could say the Sox are only spending $145 million to be losing 6-0 to a $66 million team.

Brain dead baseball. Can’t watch these bums when they don’t even show up. Enjoy the rest of the game if you can.

Thought you weren’t watching anymore tonight?

That's not true. JDM, Bogey, and Devers are all playing exactly they way they have all August long. Maybe they are still pining for the departed Vazquez.

Just so the rest of you know--I'm the only real expert on these game threads.

Just last night, for example, I lambasted Cora for starting Wacha when Winckowski was available

If you're referring to players on the IL, such as Sale and Story, then yes, they are part of the total payroll who aren't playing, but when you use the term 'unproductive,' it's a hell of lot more than $63 million.

I am not watching. Just on the thread intermittently. When it became 4-0 after Phams idiotic play I turned off the tv because the game was already over. It’s not entertaining when the Sox aren’t even competitive because they are playing brain dead baseball.

During their previous homestand the Pirates did a 3 game sweep of a very good Brewers team.

As bad as the Pirates appear they do average more than 1 win in every 3 games they play. So there's that.

Just shows it matters when you play a team. Even the worst teams get hot for a week or so a few times a year. If you’re playing them one of those weeks, you’re in trouble.

I'm being completely honest when I say that, as painful as a game like this is to watch, to me it's better that all the bad stuff happens in an unwinnable game. Winckowski didn't have it, and neither does the bullpen. So why not have the hitters, fielders, and baserunners screw up as well?

Next up, Baltimore.

Speaking of beer, back in the 90's Australian beer maker FOSTERS put out some of the funniest commercials in TV history. They would show a scene and then there would be a caption underneath explaining it. It was called 'speaking Australian.' The funniest one I can remember is there's what appears to be a kangaroo in the Australian outback and nothing else. After a few seconds the kangaroo removes his head and there's this guy inside. The caption read "witness protection program."
