I'd start with $25M x 9 and would try $25M x 10, next.

I'd top out at close to $28M x 10. He's still young, and he's a pure hitter. I think his bat will age well.

I think he wants $300mill. I would imagine $30mill for 10 years is the most preferable option, with $3,000 for 100,000 years ranking closer to the bottom…

I think that's a pretty accurate assumption.

I really did miss my calling as an agent. “My client has earned $300 million and he wants that in his next contract, and he doesn’t want $3,000 per year for the next 100,000 years. Absolutely not. But hey, if that’s all you can afford…

He might take $280M/10.

Personally, I'd go a bit higher, but I think he likes Boston.

$300M/11?

I have no idea whether he likes boston or not, nor will I pretend to know.

He’s gonna reset the market. You guys are WAY too low. Last time a player this young and this good hit the market, Machado and Harper found their homes for $300 mil plus. Devers is gonna shatter that. Someone is gonna give him 12 years $360 mil.

They need to offer him more than any other team does. Period. They already traded an all time great in Betts. They need to retain Bogey and Devers.

Pretty sure the bogey ship has sailed.

But on the bright side, they should get a decent return for him at the trade deadline.

No question in my mind that they need to keep them both. JH will still be able to put food on the table even if he has to tighten the belt a bit.

12 years 360? Lol. Jesus, he's not getting Betts type money. The Sox are already looking like a genius for letting Betts go except its too bad they didn't get a better return. At least Betts had a MVP to his name and a great WAR

Machado and Harper at the time of their deals were ahead of Devers. Machado was a top 5 MVP candidate a few times and Harper was an MVP. Machado is also a better defender.

250Mil Max unless he does something spectacular this year or next year.

Devers hasn't even been the best player on his own team.

How is Betts doing since his mega deal? Minus that covid shortened season.

Devers has had one monster year and that was in 2019 when he produced a 6.7WAR.

He's never been close any other years to that. You don't give him a mega deal unless he can show he can do that again. Wait to see how ge does this year and next.

In his defense, he broke out in 19, 20 was a pandemic shortened season and 21 was a damn good year dragged down by his D at 4WAR. We are 20% through the season, his defense has improved and he is on pace for a 7WAR season again. With offense trending downward, Devers is worth a LOT, especially considering his entire first year of his new contract will be spent at the age of 27.

The thing that bothers me here is the idea that someone is "too expensive" for Boston. He may be poorly timed to stay in Boston. The sox might be in a rebuild when his FA comes up. Does it make sense to spend the first 2-3 years of a mega extension building something?

The first year of his extension would be 2024. If the team hasn't turned the corner by then, Bloom has messed up.

Why would his extension if there is one not start in 2023? If there is going to be one there is no need to wait any longer.

I guess you would be buying out the last arb year, right?

I never get why you guys keep thinking a rebuild on a team spending top 5 in MLB is going to take years and years.

The farm already has good players who will be called up in a matter of weeks or months NOT 2-3 years.

I'm an open checkbook on him the same way I felt about Betts.

Betts was no $30M man last year in the first year of his deal, and I don’t believe no one is worth an open checkbook. Even Raffy.

Fangraphs had him worth $28M last year.

Because at this stage, if eovaldi is traded at the deadline or leaves via free agency, they have 1 starter (whitlock) who has less than 100 career innings pitched, 1 who completely sucks (pivetta) and 2 very injury prone guys on the downside of their careers (sale & paxton)

He's going to get even better!

Careful, that's starting to remind me of how you used to post chris freakin' sale.....

1. Pivetta does not suck.

2. If you went by injury history, the Yanks would be in need of a rebuild, now.

3. We finally have several decent pitching prospects in AA and AAA.

4. Sale was is not "very injury prone."

5. $110M goes a long way when adding pitchers.
