Last year, the Sox had 5 starters with over 22 GS'd (3 over 30)>

32 Nate 124 ERA+

31 ERod 98

31 Pivetta 102

22 Richards 95

With 40 games to go, Pivetta should reach 30-31 GSd, but probably nobody else reaches 22, except maybe Hill, who has 18, now.

25 Pivetta 98

18 Eovaldi 100

18 Hill 89

15 Wacha 183

12 Wink 80

10 Crawford 81

9 Whitlock 138

4 Houck 133

ERA- from 2021 to 2022 (Red= Improved)

33 Brasier> 146

43 Whitlock> 74

82 Eovaldi> 102

83 Barnes> 154

Phillips Valdez was the only returning pitcher to improve on his ERA-

EVERY OTHER RETURNING PITCHER GOT WORSE (HOUCK THE SAME)!!!! (Some, by a whole lot.)

The other improvements were all Bloom additions improving on last year's pitchers.

Hmmm....

On Arroyo to RF, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if that was Cora’s plan all along. As in:

Bloom: Do you want a right-handed hitting outfielder to platoon with Bradley?

Cora: No. I want to find ways to get Christian more involved.

Boom. That was the whole discussion. Not sure why some people think Bloom 1) announced in the press he needed to acquire a right -handed bat to platoon with Bradley and then 2) didn’t acquire one, and instead forced Cora to play Arroyo. But the latter is the plan I see people think happened.

But if it actually did go down that way, I don’t fault Cora at all. Arroyo is a good player the team has always needed him to be more involved, and if not for his questionable durability, Arroyo is easily a starter full time. Not sure why people think this one is such a big deal…

Last year I thought Arroyo stunk--and thought that even more so this year. Your support of him puts you one up on me.

Since you made up that conversation between Bloom and Cora, I can ignore it.

That said, I would have kept Renfroe with his WAR of 2.4, his OPS of .816, his 31 dingers, his 96 rbi's and his 16 outfield assists and despite his clownish 12 errors. So probably a bad deal for JBJ and two pitchers. That said, the Sox this year are ranked 4th in runs scored and 5th in OPS. Last year they were also 4th in runs scored but 3d in team OPS. So I'm thinking that the drop off hasn't been that much and is as easily explained by Kike's poor season and injury as well as JDM's decline, and the recent slumps of Bogey and Raffy.

I've already said it was not an unreasonable expectation for a quality infielder (which I think Arroyo is) should be able to play the outfield. Mookie and Kike have both done it with ease. But Arroyo clearly can't do that, and thank goodness he's had opportunities in the infield. Again, you had more faith in him than I.

Despite everything, it is still not time to give up. The Sox will have to play better and get some help along the way. The Mariners have been known to collapse.

Maybe I'm confusing posters, but I thought there was a time I tried to talk notin out of wanting Arroyo DFA'd.

Maybe it was someone else.

Wasn’t me. I never saw the point in DFAing or trading (which many others also wanted) Arroyo.

Now Josh Taylor was my DFA target last year. Until he just turned it on and became a bullpen stud. This year - I’ve been all for DFAing Barnes, Brasier and Diekman…

Before tonight's game Bloom said that the clubhouse was upbeat and the team was well positioned to make a run for a wild card spot. How is it possible that he could be that delusional. Bloom.is the Bahgdad Bob of baseball executives.

He's been reading too many of moon's posts....

So you didn’t think the clubhouse looked like that during your visit?

The part about the team being well positioned to make a run for a wild card spot does qualify as delusional.

They sure are playing like world beaters aren't they?

I believe I read in an earlier post that you said you live in Delaware.

Where at? I have family there.

Millsboro

My brother lives in Newark.

He runs Boars Head in Delaware.

I'm there every Christmas. I lived off of Naaman's Rd for a year. Do you know where Stanley's is?

Yes, he should have gone inn there and told them to pack it in, so we could get a better draft pick.

We're pretty much in tank mode regardless. They put Eovaldi on the IL and the next news will probably be he's shut down for the season.

The race for a top 10 draft pick has officially begun:

41-83 WSH

45-79 OAK

47-77 DET

47-76 PIT

48-73 CIN

50-75 KCR (beyond our reach)

52-17 LAA +8.0

53-70 CHC +7.0

54-70 COL +6.5

54-69 MIA +6.0

56-67 TEX +4.0

56-66 AZ +3.5

60-63 BOS

We'll see what Casas has in September. If Bello gets healthy, we'll start him a few times for a better look-see. Maybe DFA Plawecki and let Wong and RHern get some experience.

Yes it is about two hours from here.

I'm not entirely 100% convinced Casas gets the call. He should, but I could see them bringing up Wong and some relievers who probably need more of a look than CAsas at this point.

If they thought Casas could help this team win this year, he should be called up right now. Maybe you don't do it when you've given up.

Teams can no longer bring up 15 guys, but I do think they may want a look at Casas. The AAA season ends earlier, and Casas missed some time, this year.

I think we'll see some DFA's to make room for everyone they want to give some more playing time- maybe Plawecki might be one, but they might want him to tutor the prospect catchers.

We could also demote and not DFA Cordero, Dalbec and a few others to make room for prospects.

It might help to know a little more about him for planning the 1B situation for 2023.

September call-ups don't affect service time, or did they change that?
