Wonder if they could do what the Twins did with Correa and give Swanson a big 1 year deal; He'd likely be the big name SS next offseason instead of #5 or 6 like this year.

Just a thought.

He's had some very good recent seasons, and was even number one on some defensive metric rankings. Does he think he can improve on that and get more, when he's a year older?

I think he wants to strike it rich, now.

I've yet to see a 6 year contract with an opt out after one year, but that is all I could see him taking for an opt out. No way will he get more in 3 years, unless the market keeps going nutty.

That's Ceddanne Rafaela!

... double D's for Gold Glove defense in CF and SS

... double N's for Not Now

It seems the writing is on the wall: Mayer is the SS in 2024 or late '24. Rafaela is the CF'er in 2024 or late 2024/early 2025.

That is why we have avoided long term deals for a SS or CF'er.

This management group loves defense. Why else would they have traded for JBJ and signed Story over Bogey?

It might be why they are dragging feet with Devers.

Well if there's one thing I've been saying we can use......it's another left fielder.

If the Padres will collect all the SS, the Sox should collect all the LFers. Williams, Yaz, Rice, Greenwell, Manny, Profar...

They failed to show their love to a pretty good defender named Mookie...

They could, but if I'm Swanson I wouldn't do it unless the market dried up.

Well, he was the only one they offered a hefty deal close to market value.

File under it could always be worse:

@custom_baseball

#OTD in 1980, the Boston #RedSox made a monumental mistake, accidentally letting blue chips Fred Lynn and Carlton Fisk's contracts to expire. Lynn should be traded Jan. 23, 1981 to the #Angels for Jim Dorsey, Joe Rudi & Frank Tanana. Fisk signed with the #WhiteSox Mar. 18, 1981.

They did make a pretty big offer. I'd have gone way more, but it's not like the Lester and reported Bogey offers.

To me, the way they made this mistake was worse than the Lester, Betts and Bogey instances which span over 2 GMs.

I think they sent Fisk his contract a day late, and he became a FA.

The Lynn trade, at least brought us some talent back, as did the Burleson & Hobson deal for Lansford, Clear and Miller, but fan anger was intense, back then.

Mookie signed for 20% more.

The worst part is the Dodgers got him for a lower AAV (29 M) than our initial offer (30 M)...

Wah wah waaaaaaaaahhhhh....

It's like some are rejoicing in the gloom.

I feel no optimism right now. NONE.

However, I wasn't exactly overwhelmed by the insight his post provided.

I think it's check one box, then spend 100,000 words stating why, making sure to repeat the same points insatiably.

I know some disagree, but I think my opinion is based on the angst of reality, and I don’t see anything getting better with this JH, and Bloom at the helm. Lord forbid Bloom try’s to get something good out of trading Raffy.

More often, people can't even state the WHY.

I understand your frustration, but what's the purpose of just posting "Bloom sucks" all day long. We get it. Most of us are mostly on board at this point and just quibble at the margins of his performance.
