Hopefully, the SOX can end this tomorrow, but if it does go 5, Houck will be availabe to start.

But knowing how Cora operates, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes with Sale. But ending it tomorrow will end any surprises in game 5.

You may see that happen again in about 50 years.

Agree. What happened was completely accidental. No way did Renfroe know that rule. Even if he had, it was near impossible to body that carom into the bullpen on purpose.

Interesting. I think you are dead wrong, but Cora could do that.

8 masterful pen innings, today.

We used 7 pitchers, today.

We used 5 pitchers, Friday.

We used 5 pitchers, Thursday.

With yesterday off, no pitcher has pitched 2 straight days.

Pivetta pitched 4.2 and 4.0 innings in game 1 and 3, but our 3 starting pitchers have been pulled early. I'm not sure so few innings for Sale and ERod make them any better choices to use again

Gms Pitcher IP

2 Pivetta 8.2

1 Eovaldi 5.0

1 Houck 5.0

2 Brasier 2.0

1 ERod 1.2

2 Robles 1.2

1 Whitlock 1.1

1 Sale 1.0

2 Taylor 1.0

1 Ottavino 1.0

1 Barnes 1.0

1 Davis 0.1

1 Richards 0.1

0 Perez 0.0

You have to think everybody but Eovaldi & Pivetta are available, tomorrow. Whitlock may be avoided, if possible after 1.1 IP, tonight.

I'm assuming ERod remains the SP'er on about as short a leash as can be imagined. Houck could maybe do what Pivetta did, tonight, but they may want to "save" him for a game 5 start on normal rest.

How much do we trust Robles, now? (I still do more than anyone not named Brasier, Whitlock, Houck and maybe Taylor.)

Big game, tomorrow.

I didn't see the Renfroe play. Can you describe what happened? Thanks.

They've shown a million replays. The ball hit the ground, hit the wall, caromed back, hit Renfroe, and went into the bullpen. The WEEI guys initially assumed the umpires would give the hitter 3d base and the guy on 1b home plate because it hit Renfroe. But the rule doesn't say that. It says when the ball hits inbounds and then goes into the stands (or bullpen), it is a double regardless of how it gets there.

I just pray that Perez stays at 0.

Yeah, I just saw it. The rule seems odd, but how else could you rule such a thing? Gr-rule double, like all other odd things that happen out there.

I think the only way Houck pitches tomorrow is if the SOX have a slim lead after seven and Houck pitches the 8th to set up Whitlock.

If the ball had hit Renfroe while it was in the air and went over the fence, it would be ruled a HR. This would be similar in regards to a ground rule double.

Have a great night everyone. I'll make tomorrow's game thread in the morning. Let's enjoy this one in the meantime

Love that laydown. Tomorrow's game is equally big for both teams because McClanahan looms for game 5. Of course, Cash could well start McClanhan on 4 days rest instead of 5 because the Rays must win tomorrow.

Robles stunk tonight, but he has been excellent 15 games in a row, including 2 in the postseason.

You do realize that Cora was part of the cheating. Don't want to be hypocritical.

Lol i know that but still man they’re coming close to yankees territory when it comes to pure hate for those guys.

Excellent point but I forgive Cora! Sox got their revenge on Houston in 2018.

Meh. Yes, they cheated on sign-stealing, but so did the Sox and the ringleader Dustin Pedroia. Do you hate him too?

I don't hate the Astros because they are a good franchise with some good players. Stealing signs was dumb and I'm glad they were caught and punished. I also don't hate the Yankees.

Yes they did. 2018 the best team in baseball during the regular season won it all. That doesn't always happen. Btw, an amazing fact regarding the SOX. Their won/lost record in their last 4 WS wins is 16-3. Think about that, and if it wasn't for an error in the LA series, they would be 16-2. F'ing incredible.

Sign stealing has been done for years, but the Astros took the cheating to another level —one that warranted a huge investigation.

A big test for the "recency bias."

Just how recent is it?

Is it just how well you did your last game?

I, for one, still feel pretty confident in Robles, but not as much as I did before tonight.

Hate to say this, but this team has a very 2013 feel about them

Nothing to lose.

Loose as a goose.

Grit and determination.

What's not to like about this team? (Read the game threads and find out!)

So i just learned that the rays also benefited from this play in 2019 against the blue jays. The blue jays had a similar play like that and Kevin cash came to argue and the blue jays where robbed of a run. Lol. Stop crying rays!!!!!

really? lol

Still it is in the rule book —whether we like it or not.

Said that we deserved more to win this than them. We shouldn't have suffered this much. We had a lot of LOBs early in there game.

Let me guess - you predicted the 2013 Sox to finish a distant fourth in the AL East, too…

When the ground-rule double was called, at first I actually felt sorry for the Rays because I didn't know the rule.

Then I thought of all the dumb rules in Tampa's circus tent, the worst stadium in pro sports.

Then my 10-year-old said, "That hit was by the guy who stole the Blue Jays' note card and wouldn't give it back -- Kevin Karma."
