I am not disputing 2021's numbers. He is in decline, and this was a blip.

Why is JBJ a better choice than dozens of other great defenders?

My thoughts are the Sox could use taking Bradley’s contract to couple with better players (namely, the increasingly expensive Josh Hader) to fill gaping holes on the team that will not be filled so adequately in the free agent market.

Bradley is pricey and Milwaukee is cheap. The Sox might be wise to exploit that.

What’s the advantage of dropping $1 mill on Marisnick beyond saving money to hopefully be the top bidder for the wildly unexciting Rasiel Iglesias?

Like who? Who would you bring in instead. I thought JBJ would be a good, cheap PR move and he helps with the defensive issues the Sox have.

I'm not for spending big on RP'ers.

If getting JBJ lessened the cost of getting Hader, I'm certainly willing to agree.

I just don't get the weird fixation on JBJ, and I was a huge JBJ fan.

I'd rather have Duran on the roster than Marisnick. There's no upside there with Marisnick.

I mentioned Marisnik, but do you really need me to name great defensive OF'ers that are cheap?

Ones that are cheap and available in FA, sure.

In a post about no hit/great glove guys, you put Nick Castellanos, Avisail Garcia, Conforto, Blackmon, Calhoun and Jorge Soler in there...

Don't just put a bunch of random players in a list THAT DON'T FIT THE PROFILE.

C'mon man.

I’m fine with that.

Of course in my completely fictional scenario, we’d have neither…

Inciarte (no way his option gets picked up), M Taylor, Hamilton, Lagares, Pillar, DeShields…

You're signing Caesar Puello and Yasiel Puig, right?

With me, it’s more of a Hader (or, really, almost any elite RP) fixation. But I doubt he’s so readily available with helping Milwaukee out somewhat, such as taking Bradley back.

And if JBJ was playing on a 3 or 4 year deal here, even he’d become less palatable for this purpose…

Ah yes. Good times.

Probably worth noting the Sox at least gave my Puello idea a try…

Bringing back JBJ after a season in which he hit about a buck sixty doesn't strike me as a slam dunk PR win.

It's not the first time posters have pined for over the hill ex Sox players. Sorry if lumping you in with them offends you.

Coming from the man who wants to bring back Tommy Harper. ;)

Makes sense that they'd bring DeShields back since he was here this year and then DFA'd. BTW, DeShields has a 120 WRC+ for the Reds since the Sox DFA'd him. :/

It just doesn't make sense. Saying I'm pining for someone when I've only mentioned it once.

Also, to think I'm offended at anything on here is ridiculous. Thank you for using A700 talking points though. Glad he could be of use to you.

Well, there's MADSTORK and Beni.

Not sure what other over the hillers have been pined for.

I spoke in general terms: "I don't get the fixation..."

Don't pretend you've never heard others wish we had JBJ back.

Beni back.

Kimbrell back.

Betts back (has merit).

Even Porcello back.

Hell, some were bummed we traded Price.

A lot of this is just silly.

For example, the only reasons people advocated for Porcello were the assumption he'd come very cheaply and his ability to eat innings would have some value.

I have been on board with bringing Porcello back. And Bradley, but conditionally.

I stand by both of those…

I get that, but why Porcello? There are 10 Porcellos every year, but posters gravitate towards the known names. I understand why, but they rarely say "a guy like Porcello." They say, "Porcello!"

Some of it had to do with the fact that he was still out there with no apparent interest being shown in him.

There are absolutely not ten 32yo former Cy Young winners available every year…

Look, even Chaim Bloom obviously has a fancy for bringing back over the hill Red Sox players...

Ellis Burks is a good guy on the telecasts, but so far offers little fresh insight. I don't know why NESN doesn't try Bill Lee... with Eck... nevermind, yes I do: too happy. I think the last time they gave him the mic was during an old-timer's game a few years ago -- face flush, pupils dilated, laughing through half his (loud) words.
