LHP Robbie Ray (8-5, 3.12) vs RHP Garrett Richards (6-5, 4.99)

Well, Garrett "Lionel" Ritchie beat these guys last week. All he has to do is keep us within 4 or so heading into the bottom of the 8th. He doesn't need to be perfect.

Is this Garrett's last chance start?

I doubt it. He actually pitched pretty well for 5 innings last time out. If AC had hauled him after 5 it would have been one of your mini-quality starts with 5 IP and 1 ER.

Well, he didn't.

Last 8 starts:

IP ER

5.0 3

5.1 4

4.0 4

1.2 4

5.2 5

5.0 2

5.0 3

5.2 5

One decent start out of 8. If it goes 1 in the last 9, how much longer do we go?

Because we had a 5-1 lead. If it was 2-1 he probably gets hooked. An example of how when the manager hooks the starter has a big impact on their line.

Boone would have hooked him in a 10-1 game :D

Richards has sucked ass. This should definitely be his last chance. Houck should be called to go over this bum.

Richards will probably do what he does best — collect a check while on the IL.

LOL!

I was very high on Richards starting the season. He started shaky but then he right the ship for a while, but then he sucked again with some ups.

Problem with Richards is his inconsistency in his command. He can pitch 3 good innings then put runners on base and give up bombs.

Every pitcher has a what if or two that would greatly improve his numbers. Richards is no different.

To me, he has value to some team more than to ours. He's been healthy for 19 starts. That alone was the biggest question going into this season. As bad as he has looked over his last 8 starts, he still shows more promise than some starters on contending teams.

I highly doubt he gets traded, but I'd look into it. Not to get anything back bust some salary relief. With the money saved, we can get a better upgrade than with just the $3-4M we can spend, now.

I agree with you Moon.

Just because a pitcher gave the offensively proficient Sox a chance to win does not mean that the pitcher pitched well.

We're fortunate we can score runs....

Still very amazing at the W-L results for this time. No regular 2Bman, a hitting hole at 1B , 4-5 guys struggling at the Mendoza line, Ace still rehabbing from TJ , wearing out the BP and the primary catcher , a couple marginal bench guys playing a lot (Santana/Cordero), and a true rookie in CF now showing some pitch recognition issues, 3 #4-5 starting pitchers and a guy with a headache. . But best record in AL .

If the Sox can get 3 of 4 from the Jays , heading to Tampa, Bloom needs to do what he has to , to win the AL. Chances don't come too often, even to lovable but flawed teams.

Does this mean we can refer to Garrett as THE LITTLE TRAIN? Apology to Walter 'The Big Train' Johnson.

A large group of interns from my office are going to the game tonight. Feeling a little upset that they didn't at least invite me. Maybe I'll have to adjust my mojo to make it rain during the game, but only where they are sitting, and to create an invisible forcefield that prevents balls from going their way.

Hernández SS,

Devers 3B,

Martinez LF,

Renfroe RF,

Vázquez C,

Verdugo CF,

Plawecki DH,

Dalbec 1B,

Chavis 2B

I do not like this lineup.

Why not rest Vaz at DH.

2.70 with Plawecki - in 2 starts.

Where did you grab that from? My stumbling around the dark corners of the internet has never found CERA.

B-R splits for pitchers - one of the last ones is By Catcher.

Exactly. However, tired as he may be, Vazquez has a DWAR of +1.2 and Plawecki's is -.3.

Bogey is out because of his wrist. Duran is out because he's 1 for 11 and Ray is a good lefty. Dalbec and Chavis are in because they're available and both righty bats--plus Corduro is a lefty bat and Arroyo is on the IL and Hernandez has to play SS.

Just throwing this out there. If Bloom picks up Scherzer and with Sale coming back, would that make the SOX the favorites to win the WS? Imho, it would. So, would it be worth giving up some prospects and going over the luxury tax to go for it all this year?

From listening to some SOX talking heads today, Scherzer is already all paid up for this season. However, from what I heard, Scherzer would have to approve going to certain teams, and he's hinted that he wants to play on the west coast, and, of course, the team would have to be a contender.

That would be a powerful 1-2.
