I’m talking about Kike being the decision at 2nd and the arms he brought in and not working Devers at 1B in spring training! I’ve been raked over the coals for mentioning the possibility of shopping RD before it’s time to extend him... thoughts now, go ahead and say.... It’s game 1.... proof is in the pudding my friends!

Even if Devers never learns to play 3B well enough, IMO, he's a keeper as a 1Bman or DH.

He's a keeper. And I hope I'm not saying this cause I love how he chews gum all game and seems crazy goofy and fun to watch.

Devers can make the occasional spectacular defensive play, but major leaguers have to make almost every routine play. He doesn't.

I’ve been saying it for Months Devers is a DH he’s not even a a guy you move to first he’s a butcher and hurting the team but what can they do ? Devers bat is elite and his Defense May start hurting him mentally I’m afraid .I’m for DFA JDM eating that albatross contract and putting Devers in a situation he can feel comfortable and excel in .But now what ?this creates even more uncertainty does it not ? Xander feels like a move to third sooner than later But who plays short ???? Kiki ? I don’t even know how many innings he’s logged in there ? Is he a better defender with better range than Xander ? Don’t know .Im concerned for Devers and honestly feel sad for him at this point it’s aweful to see !this is all on Bloom I’m pissed off already .

It's game 1 and I'm not getting excited about the start.

 

But long term, why are we trying to please Devers by playing him at 3B? His biggest issue seems to be throwing. He maybe better suited for 1B.

 

And at some point, if Xander sticks around, I'd say he maybe candidate at 3B but that's in few years.

Sure, Devers' defense has been a concern for quite a while and EHern's, too, but trading JD, moving Devers to DH, Dalbec to 3B and Chavis/Martwin to 1B after one game is literally cracking me up.

-2.7 UZR/150 (26th out of 33.)

-21 DRS (31st out of 33.)

+0.9 UZR/150 (13th out of 35)

Devers:

-1.3 UZR/150 (19th out of 26) improved over 2018.

Devers is future DH. Maybe put him in LF rather than 1b.

i can’t watch a 90+ loss team. I have better uses for my time. I am not asking for much, just some competitive games. Getting rid of JD will not accelerate the rebuilding plan imo.

JD will mash. He had a slump last year and not enough games to reach his norms.

I can't believe this suggestion was even made this early in the season.

 

To be fair, the idea trading JD came up last deadline and a little over the winter.

 

Trading him might only free up $8-10M a year for two years, and since this year is not likely going to be all that competitive, we are really taking about just freeing up some cash for 2022, and not all that much.

 

He's not going anywhere, unless we are out of it by the deadline, and someone will pay a sizable chunk of his deal.

I would be happy to trade JD and his $44M luxury tax payroll amount. Do you honestly think there's a team out there willing to pay that EVEN without ANY compensation in return?

 

If not, how much are you willing to pay? And for what? We're already under the tax limit for 2021.
