And at some point, maybe an inclusion that not all post-season games are equal. A bad game in game 2 of the ALDS is nowhere near as potentially catastrophic as a bad game in game 7 of the World Series...

You're right, with so many rounds in the Wild Card era, each series would seem to present additional weight and/or stress (at least to fans watching). Then again, what could be more all-or-nothing than one-game Wild Card showdowns? Single elimination tournaments may be made for TV theater in college sports or the NFL, with its 16-game regular season. But the MLB with its 162-game slate never intended teams to play six months to qualify for one-and-dones.

Speaking of catastrophes, wonder how many Rays fans still haven't got over Cash yanking Snell with three batters coming up who were 0-for-6 with 6 Ks (all swinging)?

Play-in games aren't the playoffs, so those stats are meaningless.

@PeteAbe

A few other Sox updates:

* Roster could be 13/13 for a few days with some of the pitchers out.

* Cordero is good to go for Opening Day.

* Barnes doesn't have any symptoms.

* Final two ST games will be 7 innings.

* If they need an extra catcher, it would be somebody off the 40

Good news about Cordero and Barnes.

I don't know about Rays fans, but I can imagine how Red Sox fans would feel if it was us.

I remember how much I embraced analytics in the '18 World Series when the Dodgers benched their top three home run hitters because they batted lefty. However, I didn't pay for a billboard in LA thanking them.

Hmm, seems like you're struggling with a case of EAST COAST BIAS!

Better them than me.

Also, I don't know of any Rays fans around here, so I can't ask them. Being on the Atlantic, we're in the Marlins catchment area. However, the Lightning have a fairly decent following over here.

Good news about Cordero and Barnes.

YES!

I also like the idea of starting with 13/13 and calling up a pitcher when needed.

So, how does the C-19 list work? Is it like the IL but with no set dates on returns?

Individuals who test positive will be required to isolate for a minimum of 10 days, receive appropriate care and monitoring from the Club medical staff, and be cleared by the Joint Committee and the individual’s team physician, following a mandatory cardiac evaluation and a determination that the individual no longer presents a risk of infection to others.

A Covered Individual who has been identified as having been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID will be subject to a mandatory quarantine of seven days and must test negative on day 5 or later among other requirements to rejoin Club facilities**. Additional monitoring precautions for individuals who are not designated as close contacts will also be required.****

Thanks.

When can Barnes be cleared to play?

Has anyone been officially identified as being in "close contact?"

The only "contact" name I've heard mentioned is Andriese. There are apparently 8 players quarantining due to contact.

Barnes tested positive on 3/27. With no symptoms and clearance from a doctor, he'd be available 4/6. He could miss just 4 games.

Everyone else "could" be ready for game 2.

1st game of the year could be an interesting pitching staff.

Wow. 8!

Andriese would not start until game 5 (day 6), so he'd be okay.

I hate the idea that the literal close quarters construct of a bullpen may be the actual cause of a bullpen game.

From the list of guys that were available yesterday and today, the Sox are lucky isn't wasn't much worse.

Why would you do this to yourself??? I stay away from Sox players just so that if they suck IRL they don't kill my fantasy team too.

Over my 20 years in this fantasy league I had never favored Mariner players until two years ago when I started rostering Seattle prospects.

Perhaps a Seattle fan is better conditioned for disappointment.:)

Six of my 16 Mariners are prospects who are currently ranked on at least one Top 100 prospect list. My four Mariner outfielders do not include 2020 Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis. My six Mariner pitchers do not include James Paxton.

@ChrisCotillo

Nothing official past Eovaldi, but with the way it's lined up, looks like this could be the rotation for the opening series vs. Baltimore:

THU: Eovaldi

SAT: Houck

SUN: Pérez

Whitlock, McCarthy and Andriese were among those held out of camp due to contact tracing. Sure seems like Richards was, too, though not confirmed. All now cleared.

Barring something unforeseen, Red Sox will be making two moves to finalize their Opening Day roster:

* Chavis expected to be optioned, as Cordero is ready

* Final bullpen spot down to Brewer vs. Valdez

Brasier to IL, too. Sounds like Vázquez will be good to go. E-Rod to IL is possible, I guess, but not sure.

No new news then.

Do C-19 list players or quarantined count towards the 26 man roster? If not, Chavis should likely be on the opening day roster, right?

I will not have any Red Sox players on my team. The Kimmi Fantasy Jinx is a real thing.

I'm sure I would feel differently if it were the Sox, but I am 100% fine with Cash's decision. I would have left Snell in, but I can't blame Cash or the Rays' FO for pulling him.

Rangers DFA Roughed Odor and may eat $27M.

Could the Sox grab him after he clears waivers?

Ex Sox news:

Chatham & Lucroy released.

Buttrey optioned to alt site. Angels sign Noe Ramirez.

No to Odor.

Do we need Odor? If we want a 2b who does nothing offensively but hit home runs, strikes out a ton, and struggles defensively, I think Chavis can handle the role...
