Once the bats truly heat up, this team is gonna be tough to beat. The bullpen is lights out. Taillon has been nails 2 of 3 starts. Cole is awesome. Montgomery has been far better than his ERA. German rebounded in his last start. Kluber is the one I’m concerned about as it seems he cannot go deep yet. Maybe he never will. He’s been awful in 2 starts and then was really solid in the other 2 before fading around the 75 pitch mark. He needs to show up and start to at least go a solid 5 or he’ll be the odd man out. I’m still really concerned about Torres. No power and outside of a 3 hit game two days ago, he’s been absent offensively. I’m wondering if he ends up getting sent down mid May if he’s still terrible

You're concerned about Torres' offense but not his defense? With so many bats abashing, and Voit returning, wouldn't a true contender be able to carry a good-field, no-hit regular at the most important position on the diamond behind the pitcher? Finding a reliable glove (not a bat) for shortstop isn't key for the AL's heavy runaway favorites?

I think that’s the plan, to be honest. If Voit comes back and Torres continues to struggle, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Torres go down and Wade come up. That being said, the bats aren’t running on all cylinders yet, so you gotta keep running Torres out there and hope for the best.

Stubborn old Cash is determined to wedge Torres into the SS spot, to show he was right about letting Gregorius go.

The Yankees should just replace him with me.

Red Sox fans would love that move...

Odor is actually not stinking up the place, anymore.

He's leading you guys, recently. Scary, huh?

The guy has 3 HRs in his last 19 ABs.

Odor in YS is a scary thing if he can keep his stroke. Odor gives the Yanks the option of shifting DJ to 3b and Urshela to SS should Torres need a reset in the minors

If the Yanks can win tomorrow, they might be able to make it a double digit win streak. If we take the final Guardians game, we’ll be at 4 in a row. We get Baltimore for four without Means then a 3 gamer vs Detroit. Time to get to and over .500 here

I wouldn't say they're on fire, but the past several games the pitching has been good and the offense/defense has been mediocre rather than horrendous.

The offense still looks out of whack, but it's easier to overlook after winning.

Sarcasm is often lost in print.

They’re not on fire. The bats will rise. If the pitching can continue lighting it up, we will go on a tear

No doubt, your bats will heat up, barring major injuries, which is no given.

Your success will boil down to pitching- like just about every other team in the history of baseball.

So far, some of your pitchers have done very well, especially in your pen, beyond your big- named relievers.

Your starters, beyond Cole, will make or break your season. There are many question marks, but on paper, the Yanks should win the division and probably end up 10 games or more up on the Sox. I would not bet against that happening, but the games have to be played.

I'm glad April has started out like this, with many divisions looking near upside down on predictions. It should help the season be more exciting, at least for a few more weeks, anyway.

Taillon with another rough one.

More evidence on why I'm not a GM.

I ranted and raved about Taillon and thought the Yanks got a steal on that trade.

(Jury still out,but...)

Looks like we dodged a huge bullet that they went for Taillon and not Musgrove.

Some bad luck for Taillon in the 4th. Opened the inning with a bloop single, solid single, ground ball single, then wind aided HR. After that he struck out 2 out of the next 3. He was only at 80 pitches and could have probably came out for the 5th but Boone decided against it. Of course he went to Nick Nelson in a one run game who then made it a four run game.

Oh well. Hopefully they can make the O's look like the O's these next several games.

Yankees still aren't hitting much.

6 hits today.

Sanchez and Gardner both dipped below .200, joining a long list of Yankees below the Mendoza line.

Batting Odor 4th tells a big story.

Also, Judge looks far from 100%. Not moving well at all. His advanced fielding and baserunning numbers confirm it. Probably headed for another IL stint.

With the fielding, going into today he had a UZR/150 of -38.1. In past seasons that was always a healthy plus figure.

He's trying to play through an injury.

This month has been one to forget. Surprised they’re only 9-12. They’re better than that

And the Red Sox are worse than 14-9. 5 more months to go. Don't sweat it just yet

The 21 Yankees are what they are. They have Cole and an excellent bullpen. Their offense is not great and their defense is bad.

I think you're too quick to stomp on their throats. They showed signs of life this weekend. They are going to turn it around. Nobody denies the talent on their roster. Are you suggesting that Stanton, Judge, and Torres aren't talented? Are they not perennial all-stars? A team this talented won't struggle forever. Suggesting that their offense is not great is also suggesting that their offense is not talented. The skill is there. It's just a question of when they will come around.

I think Judge is hurt and I see another lengthy IL stint in his future.

Stanton and Torres don't know how to do anything but swing for the fences. Stanton is also a big health risk. They're afraid to put him on the field.

I can't watch Yankee games for the same reason I can't watch Sox games, so I haven't personally witnessed Judge, so I can't weigh in on his health. It's a known fact that they are being careful with Stanton, but he will still get hot. He's turned the corner in the last week. Had a great series in Cleveland as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, I agree, all they do is swing for the fences. There's nothing wrong with that if you're making solid contact, but they aren't. A lot of weak ground balls and double play balls. It's the general trend the game has gone in over the last few years. Maybe the short porches at Yankee Stadium encourage them to do that. I would be interested in seeing how they hit in a pitcher's park, where you have to find the gaps. I would even be curious to see how they hit at Fenway. Do the lefties try to pepper the wall or will they try to pull everything? All I know is that they should pummel the Orioles this week. If they don't, there is a serious problem, if there wasn't one already
