So you're officially predicting the Red Sox finish last this year. Got it.

It is semantics. Finishing above the Orioles isnt something to be proud of. I openly predicted 72 wins for the sox. Their upside to me is around 80-82 wins, but this division is gonna be a buzz saw. If absolutely everything goes right, they're a .500 team, maybe a tick higher. They will not be in contention at the deadline and will be sellers

Semantics? You said last place. You are too much sometimes.

Arbitrary cutoff since we owned the last 5 years of the 20th century and missed the POs once in the first 12 years of this century. A dynasty was rebuilt and now we’ve been PO bound for the last 4 years and looking to be WS contenders now. Sox made it to the mountain top more times, yet they’ve also been basement dwellers way more times, like you will be this year

Not really arbitrary. It's about when Henry took control of the Sox. It's a significant marker. It was the beginning of a new era.

Also, while Steinbrenner remained in control of the Yankees for the first few years of the 2000's, when he passed control of the team off and then died shortly afterwards, that marked the end of an era for the Yanks.

While the two era dates are not exactly lined up, nobody can deny the changes each brought to the two teams.

The score is actually 4-1, if you go by Henry teams vs post George teams, although the total years are different.

I don't blame you for pointing out the date I chose. You only have to go back to 1996 to take a 5-4 lead.

I think there's a poster here who has it in their signature line. :cool:

The Red Sox like what they have seen from Franchy Cordero so far, in terms of his progression. There's still a chance he makes Opening Day roster. Saturday will be a big test of that, Cora said.

The lineup today speaks to what Cora is still looking at. Chavis and Duran are starting.

@ChrisCotillo

Red Sox have 34 healthy players (including Cordero) in camp and 26 spots. Remaining NRIs are McCarthy, Walden, Herrmann, Pereda, Gettys, Puello. Of that group, only McCarthy seems to have a shot of making the team.

It's almost that time of the year where we fret about the 14th man in the pen. It may be McCarthy? https://www.fangraphs.com/players/kevin-mccarthy/15240/stats?position=P I forgot this guy was even on the team until I saw his name yesterday. Has anyone seen him pitch?

@SoxProspects

Today's roster moves:

Optioned Jonathan Araúz to the Alternate Training Site

Reassigned Chris Herrmann, Danny Santana, César Puello, Michael Gettys, Kevin McCarthy, and Marcus Walden to the minor leagues.

@SPChrisHatfield

28 players still on the roster - remaining moves will be:

- IL Brasier

- choose between Brewer and Valdez

- either activate Cordero/option Chavis/DFA someone (Schreiber) or keep Chavis up.

The news on ERod is troubling, but I guess not entirely unexpected.

I hope he can come back soon. I’m wondering if we pushed him a bit to quickly. I think he went 4-5 innings before the 2 inning game.

Hate to see young players slumping during ST. Duran appears to me to be doing that now. He wasn't going to make the opening day roster anyway, but it is not a good thing to see him start to struggle now.

Not a good morning in Red Sox camp. Matt Barnes has tested positive for COVID. Matt Andriese is out today for contact tracing, and others could be as well. Here’s what we know so far.

If he is not going to make the team, it might be better to see him struggle so he gets an idea what to work on. And really, what would be more frustrating than absolutely killing it in spring training and still going back to the minors?

Pumpsie Green was just telling you this the other day... on an excellent NESN My Story with Jahmai Webster. Green outhit everyone in Spring Training, but got sent down, despite public outrage. After the Red Sox fired their racist manager in July, they brought Green up as their first African American player.

Boston, Massachusetts -- Union state, one of the original 13 colonies -- was the last MLB city to integrate. It was twelve years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.

Right. And didn't exactly go all in on AfricanAmerican or Hispanic players after that.

Even through the 60'sand 70's, there were serious issues.

Bit of a nonsequitur?

Somewhat relevant, then into the weeds.

Has absolutely nothing to do with anything going on now, with a Red Sox player tearing it up in THIS 2021 ST, only to be sent down.

About as irrelevant as I've ever heard.

Well... other than my post about the Red Sox moves looking far better than the Celtics.... ;)

He did strike out 14 times in 40 plate appearances. He showed the league what he needs to work on...

Sure. If that was his point? Didn't quite seem to be the nub of the point he was jamming in there?

LOL :0 otherwise.... I'm. Yeh.

Nah. He was just looking for an opening for a Pumpsie Green story. I do stuff like that all the time...

What is interesting is to read the life stories of both Pumpsie Green and Mike Higgins the racist manager. Pumpsie lived an honorable and admirable long life until.his 80s. Higgins died on parole from prison at age 59. Karma can be a bitch.

See? Another person seized an opening to tell a story I was unaware of. Gotta love it...

Mike Higgins reportedly suffered his fatal heart attack less than 48 hours after his release from prison:
