BA came out with their mid season top 100 today.

#27 Casas

#29 Duran

#68 Downs

Downs at #68 is going to piss off 700.

Must be a bust. Maybe we can trade him for two bags of baseballs.

Would you trade Downs straight up for Cedric Mullins (3 more years of team control) or Adolis Garcia (4 more yrs of control)?

BTV accepted both trades and have their values being very similar.

I don’t think those are bad trades at all. I might be a little reluctant to trade Downs for an outfielder. We don’t have a 2nd baseman in our future anytime soon if it isn’t Downs. I can see Duran inserting himself into left with Verdugo/renfroe in center/right.

Not that Duran/Mullins/Verdugo wouldn’t be a nice outfield either I just want to upgrade 2nd first. More than one way to skin a cat I suppose.

Renfroe is a FA after next year.

At 2B, we have Kike for one more year-same as Renfroe.

We have Arroyo for several years.

I know some don't like Arauz, but he's somewhat promising.

Munoz & Chavis are a long shots.

Nick Yorke is our #10 prospect and Matthew Lugo is not far behind.

After 2022, we have Verdugo & Duran in the OF. Jimenez may be close to the bigs by 2023, but I don't see 2B being any thinner than OF long term.

We'll know more about 2B and OF after 2021.

Maybe Arroyo solidifies the 2B job.

Maybe Duran comes up in August and bombs.

Aside from the Mata/Ward injuries, this has been a very good year for Sox prospects. In a perfect world, Downs would start to heat up too. Hard to complain though.

Found this little tidbit about the Benintendi trade return interesting.

Chris Hatfield

@SPChrisHatfield

Terrific point by a @SoxProspects Forum poster, cdj: Red Sox Special Assistant, International & Amateur Scouting Chris Becerra was the Mets' director of int'l scouting when they signed Freddy Valdez. Red Sox were scouting Mets' system now, but that perspective likely was helpful.

This Cordero fellow is really lighting it up for the WooSox.

If he's hitting good in AAA then certainly he can only help the big club.

Maybe we could trade him straight up for that guy named Beni, who plays for the Royals.

We might have to throw in 4 bags of baseballs.

soxprospects.com projects the newbies to be at these levels in 2022:

MLB Franchy Cordero (4 OF)

AAA Josh Winckowski (SP)

AA Grant Gambrell (SP)

A- Freddy Valdez (RF)

A- Luis de la Rosa (SP)

They also project Downs in MLB, on the bench, Duran starting in CF, Whitlock as one of our 6 starters and Houck in the pen. Casas in AAA with Rosario, Arauz, Pott, Wong and Wilson.

They go out of their way to say this is just speculation.

If you notice it’s 26 guys plus Barnes/Acquisition/Chavis. They will make some moves and someone will be optioned, released, or traded.

Agreed.

I don’t see us having any serious roster crunch or Losing anyone special to rule 5, this winter.

I’m predicting Chavis has less than 2 months left in the Sox organization...

I agree.

I must have had him as part of a BTV trade dozens of times.

I still think he should be called up, but maybe they are afraid that might hurt his trade value.

I could see us trading Chavis and Groome for a better pitcher than Groome- hopefully with several years of team control.

I guess he could also be traded for a salary dump-type player.

Makes sense. Chavis and Dalbec are so similar, and Dalbec has more potential, I think.

I can see it. At some point, they need to determine if he's the best option at the bottom of their 40 man roster. Trade? DFA? We'll see.

Maybe Sox brass thought this would be a useful season to give several players a very long look to better determine who is a keeper and who is not.

Dalbec

Chavis

Cordero

Arroyo/Arauz/Munoz

Winning more games than expected out of the gate has made finding playing time for some of these guys much more difficult.

Only Arroyo has increased his value, and although Arauz has not lessened his, the rest seem to have.

If we keep winning, we may not allow enough ML playing time for some of these guys.

I can't see Chavis and Dalbec on the 40 by opening day 2022. Perhaps both are gone. I think Cordero, Arroyo and Arauz will be, if they are not traded. It's still early to know for sure.

I’m going with trade.

My best guess is to Miami for Dylan Floro, because 1) the Marlins are loaded with young arms but desperately need hitters 2) Floro does offer the Sox a good bullpen upgrade and has postseason experience with the Dodgers and 3) it works out in BTV...

It's as good as done.
