@PortlandSeaDogs

We wish Tanner Nishioka well as he voluntarily retired after this game. What a way to go out...homering in your final two professional at-bats!

Maybe he's angling for the backup job to Mac Jones?

@SoxProspects

Previously a @WooSox outfielder, Michael Gettys made his debut as a pitcher today for the FCL Red Sox working a scoreless fifth inning with one walk and one strikeout.

LOL wut?

Better Gettys than the HS QB he played with: Deshaun Watson.

@SPChrisHatfield

We've now heard from multiple sources, as we've speculated, that Jay Groome is indeed being promoted to Portland for his next start, which should be Thursday or Friday.

Posted
So he's now a 23-year-old (by one week) who is in AA. Given all the time he's missed and a completely lost Covid season it's kind of amazing to think he's here and could be knocking on the door towards the end of next season.

At this point, he doesn't have the ceiling of a frontline starter, but nobody could complain if he turned into a #4.

I mean....who does? But you're not wrong he's perceived ceiling has definitely taken a hit. Groome will become whatever he becomes. I have a feeling that if he can stay healthy then he's going to exceed expectations, I forsee a #3 #4 pitcher, and a good #3 #4 pitcher at that.

I was really down on him earlier this season. He's not pitching great, but just getting through this season healthy is a big step. He just hasn't had the opportunity to truly develop.

Exactly, and now that he seems to be finally healthy he's made big improvements, it gives you a little to dream on.

@SoxProspects

The Red Sox released 1B/3B Danny Diaz. After signing for $1.6M in '17, he topped out at no. 14 in the #SP60 after hitting 6 HR in the DSL in '18. He never hit stateside, getting demoted back to the DSL in '19 after struggling and hitting just .173/.264/.320 in the FCL this year.

"That's not Danny Diaz!"

Lots of good things happening down on the farm.

They play during September, this year, so maybe that will give us something to excite us.

You think he could start 2022 in AA?

He could, but I don't think he will. He'll start in Greenville and work his way up. He'll probably end 2022 in AA. Maybe we see him in 2023 if he's really mashing.

No one has been down on Groome more than me, but it is good to see him finally take a very big step...

Yorke is definitely starting 2022 in Greenville but he'll be on the fast track to AA, if he's absolutely racking he won't be held down more than 1-2 months.

Thanks. I trust your judgment on prospects.

I guess I am hoping we found a wunderkind.

He needs a lot of defensive refinement from what I've heard. All his plays are methodical like the slow double play turns we saw last night.

A 2023 ETA is really pushing it, that's very Mookie-esq....BUT when you're regarded as the #1 prospect in the draft with Mayers talent level that's the type of trajectory you can dream on. I too....am a dreamer. I use the term dream loosley as I do think it's a real possibility, but it's just that if he develops a little slower and isn't in the big leagues until 2025 that's fine, he still could be a very good player.

When you see other teams fast-tracking these studs and them starting off on fire, you start thinking maybe some near studs can do the same.

I fall into the trap, too.

(Not saying Mayer is a near stud. He could be a stud.)

Are we talking about Yorke or Mayer? I think Yorke can get to BOS very quickly.

@IanCundall

Red Sox SS Marcelo Mayer hit his 3rd home run of the FCL season today. He is now hitting .309/.415/.545 in 65 PA and has had multiple hits in three straight games.

Seems like Bloom can draft a little bit.

I never thought Mayer would drop to us. I was expecting and wishing for a college talent, but getting Mayer was nothing short of amazing.

I do think it was a no-brainer, but Bloom should still get credit.

Repost:

I really like what Bloom has added to the farm and big club, in terms of prospects and recently graduated prospects.

Whitlock

Mayer

Yorke

Seabold

Downs

Jordan

Wong

Winckowski

Bleis

RHernandez

McDonough

Hickey

And others that may rise quickly through the ranks.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed by

Rosario

Potts

German

Wallace

Wu and 3 relievers threw a no hitter today in Greenville!

Wu went 5 innings with no hits, but 4 walks and he doinked another batter! Ouch!

Wu doesn't have great control. Will probably wind up as a reliever.

IDK, so many prospects just flame out. That's why you hoard as many as possible.
