According to Alex Speier, Santana will be called up as early as this weekend.

Sounds about right.

So, the next choices are who to send down when Arroyo is ready and what do we do when Duran is deemed ready.

This was supposed to be Thaddeus Ward's day, but he's been placed on the IL. The top 4 pitchers in the #SP60 entering spring training (Mata, Houck, Ward, Seabold) are all currently on the IL.

It just seems like we can never catch a break with our pitching prospects.

We finally get a sleeper prospect, Houck, get our hopes up, last year, and now he's on the IL.

Mata was #3 at the end of 2020, Now he's 11th.

Ward is still 8th.

Seabold moved from 9th to 7th.

Whitlock has moved up to 4th, since the start of 2021.

Aldo Ramirez moved from 10 to 9 as Mata dropped behind him

Song 11> 12

Groome 12> 13

Murphy 18>23

Bazardo moved to #19.

My guess is Winckowski might crack the top 15 or 20 by the mid season rankings.

With pitching, you always have to look at the long term. You might not hit on every one, but you need to keep going.

@alexspeier

RHP Eduard Bazardo, who left Tuesday's Triple-A Worcester game with an injury, has been diagnosed w/a right lat strain.

Thaddeus Ward, who's on the injured list for Double-A Portland, has a right forearm strain. Red Sox are still determining the severity of both injuries.

@SPChrisHatfield

- Injured minor leaguers on the 40-man: Bazardo, Wong, Mata, Houck, Seabold, Potts.

- Prospects on 40-man for Rule 5 protection, prob. not ready to come up: Wilson (maybe in a pinch), R. Hernandez, Potts, Rosario, Groome.

That's 10 "dead" 40-man spots on minor leaguers.

Interesting points from latest SoxProspects podcast:

Kaleb Ort has stuff that could push him into MLB pen this year.

Marcus Wilson is less athletic than in 2019. Possibly LF only profile. Fringe bat speed.

Worcester plays as a launching pad due to the setup behind homeplate. Some lazy popups have turned into HR’s, notably one of Wilson’s. May bump offensive numbers and pitcher ERA.

I’ve also heard that defense across the board has been atrocious in MiLB and that pitchers’ numbers are looking way worse because of it.

We don't really need CF, since Kike & Verdugo both play it well enough.

We need a Renfroe platoon, and Marwin is playing himself out of that role.

Ort was another swipe from the Yankees. This would be cool.

Now if only German would pick up his end of the bargain too...

So then the only CF guy they have on the farm is Jimenez?

Cam Cannon (aka baby Pedroia) is OPSing 1.060 in Greenville. Make room for him in Portland.

Player of the Day: Cameron Cannon led the NCAA in doubles on his way to Boston making him the 43rd overall pick in the 2019 draft. He struggled in his professional debut, getting hurt after signing and then hitting just .205/.289/.335 in 170 with Lowell. The former Arizona Wildcat has turned things around in the early part of the season, delivering three hits for Greenville for his seventh multi-hit effort in 13 games. Cannon is 11 for 23 in his last five, bringing his season line to .347/.407/.653.

Gilberto Jimenez has hit safely in 12 of 13 games. I'd keep him in Salem so that he gets to the All Star game and then promote him to Greenville.

Mieses hit his 7th GD HR this year. Bring that to WOO after they promote Santana please.

Once Mieses is promoted, you can give POR Tyreque Reed to fill the slugger role (rule 5 pick).

1.165 OPS, 5 HR for Greenville.

@redsoxstats

Gilberto is the perfect prospect for the "just put it in play" crowd. He has the lowest strikeout rate in his league at 9% and has the second highest contact rate on swings at 87%. He's batting .390 with a .434 babip.

You think he'll be moved to Greenville midseason?

You would think a pitcher who fits that profile would maximize the value of good defense behind him.

The whole Sale/Greenville switch is still messing with my head.

I'm slowly getting used to it. The AAA nomenclature is harder for me.

Duran's 5-for-5 (2B, 2 HR) performance brought his AVG up to .299 and gives him 4 doubles and 7 homers on the season. The boost in power can be credited to increased strength and added loft in his swing that allows him the drive the ball to all fields especially to the pull side.

One of Duran’s HR’s was 475’.

I think it's a lock, his bat is ML ready.

Duran went 5 for 5 (2 HRs & 2B) and brought his OPS over 1.000.

Downs & Munoz homered, too.

Portland: Meneses with 3 hits- Casas with 2.

All 4 teams won.

Thanks Dave!

Contrary to what some posters claimed, maybe as hyperbole, Dave never totally "emptied" or "gutted" the farm.

He just nearly did.

He kept Devers and a few others.

2020 Rule 5 Draft:

Garrett Whitlock - pitching well for BOS

Kaleb Ort - 7 G, 5 SV, 11K, 0.71 WHIP in AAA

Tyreque Reed - .439 OBP, 1.178 OPS, 6 HR in A+

Seems like Bloom did ok?
