Also, I think the reason JBJ was always talked about as being a trade chip is that he'd go through Ruthian hot streaks and then fall back to earth. Maybe you could have moved him during a hot streak and maximized that value?

Players only hit trade board rumors when they struggle and fans want them gone...

100%. I'd sign him for a 2 year deal. He'll be 31 next year and his production will only go down the longer the contract gets.

2 years at $8M? $9M?

$6M?

I might go as high as $5.5M x 2 with incentives.

Mexico's death/cases rate is over 9- about the worst in the world, but we have slightly more deaths per million than Mexico and are pulling away.

We may be spenders this winter, but not by that much.

Yo have to multiply that rate by 3 at veeeeeery least brother. Beds in hospitals aren’t enough right now. It’s really a chaos. Our ignorant and inept president is a disgraceful and an embarrassment.

Hopefully we assemble at least a competitive team.

Sorry to hear about that. High population centers like Mexico City present extraordinary challenges to control infectious diseases in a health crisis. Hopefully, you and your family are well.

My shopping list for the Red Sox for 2021 would include 2 healthy starters, a couple of strong bullpen arms, DJ to play 1B/2B and Rosario in the OF.

They just have announced that businesses can’t open after 5 pm in Mexico City. They have managed this thing very bad. Fortunately my family is ok compadre. Thanks for your words. Good to hear you are ok as well.

Like your shopping list. IMO Gonna be several bidding wars specially for big fish since a lot of teams seem to have a lot of money next year. Hopefully John opens his wallet and wisely.

Jackie Bradley Jr.’s market continues to percolate, as MLB.com’s Jon Paul Morosi tweets that the Cubs and Phillies are the latest teams to be linked to the free agent outfielder.

Beyond Philadelphia and Chicago, four other clubs (the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Astros, and an unknown AL Central team) have also reportedly shown interest in Bradley’s services at various points in the offseason.

No surprise Dombro is in on JBJ. With more teams driving up the price, Bloom and BOH have to be focusing elsewhere. Unless they're serious about just making Verdugo the centerfielder, I have to think Eddie Rosario may also be less of an option.

Rosario would give them 3 left handed OFer, each of whom can play CF. It would also allow Renfroe plenty of opportunity to platoon against LH pitchers.

Beni has spent more time in CF than Rosario has it. I'm sure they both can play the position, just probably not at a high level.

I think Verdugo showed that he's a perfect fit for RF in Fenway. I'd leave him there.

@redsoxstats

“The door is definitely not closed on adding to the outfield mix and that could certainly be a traditional CF that has experience, like a guy like Jackie Bradley. We’ve said Jackie remains on our radar and definitely nothing is foreclosed there.”

KEVIN KIERMAIER

OF, TAMPA BAY RAYS

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the chances of a Kevin Kiermaier trade "probably aren't great."

Bob Nightengale of MLB Network reported Monday that Kiermaier was "next on the trade block" for the Rays after they shipped former AL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to the Padres, but Heyman notes that Tampa Bay loves the rangy center fielder "for the clubhouse and defense" even though he has underwhelmed offensively since signing a five-year, $53 million extension with the team in March 2017. We'll see.

I'm pretty sure TB does not want to pay him the rest of his contract.

He has an option for 2023, so he's owed this:

$26M/2

or

$36.5M/3

The tax hit is only about $8.9M, so there's a little break there.

My guess is, they'd take someone like Marcus Wilson or Arauz, but according to BTV, TB would owe us about $11-12M or a player of that value to balance it out.

The BTV site accepts Kiermaier & Fleming for Arauz.

I'd prefer something like Arauz & Bello for Kiermaier & Yarbrough (also accepted).

(Nick Anderson and Pete Fairbanks are pre-arb,so they are not likely available.)

Now that they've cut loose Morton and Snell, one salary like that may not matter to them so much.

$26M/2 for a guy like Kiermaier is not something they want.

$13M might be 40% of their 2021 player salary budget.

It seems obvious to me, they want to give him away.

Well, they didn’t cut Morton loose so much as watch him reach free agency. Point being they knew his salary was already gone (as Glenn Frey used to say) during any period where they were contemplating moving Kiermaier...

According to SoxProspects, Brayan Bello and Jonathan Arauz are ranked No. 22 and No. 25 in an undistinguished Red Sox farm system.

Arauz is an unlikely trade target for the Rays who currently have middle infielders Wander Franco, Vidal Brujan and Xavier Edwards ranked No. 1, No. 41 and No. 67 overall at MLB Pipeline:

Okay, give em Marcus Wilson.

Kiermaier has negative value.

They'd take Wilson straight up with no cash involved in a heartbeat.

Kiermaier is going to be almost 40% of the Rays' player budget.

We could just sign JBJ for less than what Kiermaier makes and keep Arauz & Bello.

The idea is that the Rays will have to give something good with Kiermaier just to make the package a net zero cost.

At the same time, Morton and Snell being gone represent a significant reduction from last year's payroll.

Yes but they were reportedly contemplating moving Kiermaier this off-season. Morton was already off the books and therefore not a new factor to be considered...

Most likely, the Rays don't see Kiermaier as a negative value guy and aren't going to dump him for a C level minor leaguer.

I don’t think the trade from the Rays’ point of view would be anything but a salary dump. I do doubt they would include Pete Fairbanks and his 101mph fastball as enticement or a player they seem to like. But if the Sox offered a token player like Arauz or Wilson for Kiermaier straight up, I would be surprised if they declined. The main reason they might is because the status of Arozarena is in a bit of flux right now... I

I'm nearly certain they'd give him away for nothing. They may even play a few million for nothing back.

I disagree with BTV's -9.7 value, but he is certainly under water.

Faibanks also has a 4.5 BB/9 rate,so there is that.

There is absolutely no way, the Rays would offer Kiermaier $26M/2, right now. ZERO chance.

The Rays also have Margot, among others.

Which is not to say the Tampa Bay Rays would trade Kevin Kiermaier for a token return.

Of course they like Kiermaier as a player. He's not a negative WAR or replacement level player. He's good.

My point is, the Rays would hand him away for nothing, same as we would Eovaldi or JD.

They could do wonders with $26M. It's not about Arauz or Wilson or Bello.

Would the Red Sox trade Dustin Pedroia for a token return?
