Profar can play OF but his 2b skills have come into question.

Why do you suppose they avoid Bradley and Hand? Bloom is far better known for strengthening bullpens over rotations...

Not expensively, though.

The Rays won that trade ... likely short term and more certainly long term.

Or not.

I think they will do well from that trade, too, but way more long term than short.

By trading Kiermaier, and freeing up 30-40% of their budget, they will have "won" a trade of him, too.

They spend their money well. Give them $13M x 2 years, and they will find valuable players worth way more than what Kiermaier is worth. cots estimates the Ray's player budget at about $34M, for 2021.They will likely sign a few minor free agents, but don't be surprised if the total player budget isn't much higher than 4 times what Kiermaier makes.

I know you can see this.

Would the Red Sox trade Dustin Pedroia for a token return?

Pedroia is an odd choice for a comparison.

Kiermaier's contract is underwater, that's the real point.

That's one way to put it. He had a career-ending injury rendering him of no use to any team, sadly.

Plus, it's not like Kiermaier is some ex-MVP player with a big fan following.

Would we trade Eovaldi for a player like Arauz?

In a heart beat!

Trade away every player making more than 2 million a year. Trade them for any " prospects " offered. Think of the money " we " would save. The team might not be very good , but you can't finish lower than fifth anyway.

You can't call it blind faith with Henry at least. His record of spending on the team over 19 seasons is sufficient basis for some faith.

Like has been mentioned elsewhere, nearly 75% of the FA market remains unsigned. There's a long way to go for this offseason. We haven't even begun to fight about the Carlos Hi Ho Silvas of the world yet!

My guess is Bloom signs 4 more MLB contract guys (CF, SP, 2 RPs) and 5 more MiLB contract guys.

Sounds about right.

I think he is being sarcastic. Web forums are not the best medium for that, however...

Yes, sarcasm, to take a shot at those whose opinions about what we should be doing this offseason don't gel with his.

Not every player making $2M+ is underwater.

Still shocked Henry gets labeled as cheap. Last year’s team was not just a complete dumpster fire, it was also a dumpster fire with the third highest payroll in MLB.

Even Henry’s disasters are luxurious...

Yep.

Bloom missed the boat. There are no good free agents left as he took too long and Henry was too cheap.

And who would have guessed the largest contract would have gone to James McCann and the largest AAV to Charlie Morton. But, hey, once those two were off the board, it was all over...

What month of elimination entails “contender?”

There's a good chance, after we add 3-5 significant players to our roster, this winter, we can be in the wild card race and even make the playoffs.

Not many other teams in the AL seem to be getting better.

We understand that you are frustrated and disappointed by the key personnel losses suffered by your 33-27 Yankees, and the complete inertia of Hal and Cash since signing Cole.

I'm not mocking anyone who has confidence in Henry because of his spending habits that have made the Red Sox championship contenders many times the past two decades. He has proven himself to be the best owner Boston baseball has ever had.

But can anyone else at least acknowledge that those spending habits have radically changed since he hired Chaim Bloom? I understand the need to reset, but we have not seen Henry in public since the Sox traded Mookie. Maybe he's just laying low, staying away from crowds and staying healthy until he gets a vaccine. Hopefully, he's not losing interest...

It's still early.

I do doubt we make any big splash signings, this winter, but we've gone 2 low-spending winters in a row under Henry before.

I'm thinking we'll end up being in the top 5 highest budget teams in 2021, so it's hard for me to acknowledge what I think you want me to do.

I want you to hack headquarter computers and orchestrate a mega-deal for Luis Castillo, then replace the traded talent with free agent signings, then hit "Send". Stat!
