@jcmccaffrey

Bloom also says Eduardo Rodriguez continues to progress from myocarditis and continues to ramp up his physical activities.

Fingers crossed!

Funnily enough, I'm reading a book right now about French philosopher Michel Montaigne. He was extremely fond of the Greek word "epekho", which means "I suspend judgment".

Shouid I place a library hold on the 2019 book A Summer with Montaigne by Antoine Compagnon?

Does a bear s*** on the moon?

Dalbec will come back to Earth. but we all know what pre-emptive measure the Sox will take.

Mitch Moreland...

Yes, please.

Probably so. Montaigne was a very interesting fellow.

MLBTR...

Don’t count on an all-in push, but if 2020 was all of the rebuilding and step backwards that ownership was willing to take, the Sox could be one of the winter’s more aggressive teams.

If nothing else, they need to do something to generate some interest among the fan base. The past two off seasons have been more about cost control. Whether or not you think that was necessary, it certainly does nothing to excite the fans.

They definitely need a big move for that exact reason. Alex Verdugo is a good player, but he is not the draw that Betts was.

I don't know if this puts Trevor Bauer on the radar, but they will need to make some sort of splash...

Hard to state that until fans come back.

Not really.

We could go by jersey sales...

Betts was #3 in 2019. Hard to say what the sales will be like for Verdugo after he's been here a few years (Betts was 14th highest in 2017).

Well right now all that matters is 2021...

Cora said Verdugo was the team MVP in 2020. If he plays as well and with the same enthusiasm, I bet his jerseys will sell really well too.

Compagnon is and has been a very prolific author. I haven't read anything of his in over 20 years, but I recall it as being smart, lucid, and not overly polemical (in contrast to many of his crazed French contemporaries, whom I confess I rather liked in those days). So I'd say, go for it! (And by all means let me know what you think.)

Per MLB Network interview:

@redsoxstats

Rodriguez says he feels great. He’s been riding a bike, running a little, and started his throwing program. He starts lifting weights next week and says he’ll be 100% ready for next season.

So would you say he’d be the same draw as Betts next season?

As Betts in LA? No. Betts is coming off a WS season and playing for a new crowd that hasn't seen him yet.

Sanchez revenge tour and Tauchy plays OF.

Tauchman strikes me as Exhibit A in the “Alleged Yankee Sign Stealing Scandal.” The guy couldn’t hit in Coors!!

Sanchez has been a league-average hitter (99 OPS+) with some power for the past 3 seasons. He might be great at Fenway, but those ex-Yankee stink bombs just never work out.

Sanchez is a DH though, and we have a DH.

Once our robot overlords overwhelm the umpires union, more and more catchers will look like Sanchez.

So now you're proposing Dahlek umpires?

Don't get me wrong. I'm on board. I'll take a Dahlek over Angel Hernandez any day...

And what happens if you draw the sample out to 4 years? What if you only do 2 years? Looks a little better, no?

It's what I've always proposed.

More and more catchers will look completely inept? That's not good news.

Not much. OPS+ of 108.

The problem there is that when you do that, 2017 is equally influential as 2020. And that is just flat out not true....

So 2020 was a normal year?
