I don't care if someone doesn't want to put Mazza on the 40 man, just don't replace him with "if we don't put him on the 40 man in 2019 he'll be drafted, oh wait he wasn't drafted, but let's say the same thing the following offseason" Bazardo.

Mazza is the type of guy the Sox could DFA and re-sign to an MiLB deal. Bazardo might not get selected in the Rule 5 draft, but if the only risk in keeping him is the easily replaceable Mazza, I don't see the harm. You can always get another Chris Mazza. And the new one can be here tomorrow if you have Amazon Prime...

I see your point. I'm not high on Chatham, so maybe I should have swapped those two. I could also see Arauz, Grullon, Brewer, Valdez or Aybar gone, instead.

 

The last 5-10 guys are pretty interchangeable.

Detroit has a slew of better pitching prospects and young pitchers and really needs help around their lineup. The bulk of their SS play last year was handled by Niko Goodrum, who can really play just about anywhere and is listed as a non-tender candidate on MLBTR (although likely a low probability one), and the Tigers don't even have a good SS prospect above A-ball, according to Roster Resource.

 

I would make this deal yesterday. Detroit might as well...

Yes, that's a problem with nearly any BTV approved trade. Just because the numbers line up, doesn't mean it's feasible. BTV isn't sophisticated enough to determine what a player's value would be to a particular team.
