Mazza vs. Happ

It's Mazza's first major league start.

Now to the chasing history part, and the reason I was excited to start this thread.

The Red Sox have allowed 8 runs or more in 6 straight games. According to Alex Speier, that is a new franchise record.

But the really amazing fact from Speier: if the Sox allow 8 runs or more tonight, with a streak of 7 games they will tie the All. Time. Major. League. Record.

We will likely break the team record for fewest wins in a season, too.

The record is 43 in 1932.

(BTW, the record for fewest losses is 47 in 1903 and 1912. We will likely beat that record, too, but who knows just how bad we can get.)

Worst winning % ever?

.279 in 1932

.286 in 2020

.301 in 1926

A loss, today, puts us at .273.

This team is putrid. Gag inducing. I am starved for baseball, but can't watch this garbage. I know that people think Bloom is safe and he came here with some kind of genius reputation, but I think he might be pulling a Kerrigan. Joe Kerrigan, the one-time genius pitching coach s*** the bed so badly when he replaced Joe Morgan that he had to be fired. He was managing a team that was out of the pennant race and it was just a September to play out the string, but the team lost every day under him. Seeing one month of him was enough. What we are seeing now will produce an empty ballpark in April 2021 after everyone has been vaccinated. It will be empty like 1964.

I broke my unofficial streak of maybe 10+ years of watching every possible pitch of every Sox game.

I agree, this is too sick to watch. I'm still watching most games, of I should say, they are on the TV in the same room I am in, but I just can't get into this mess.

One of the best opening game posts ever. Mood-setting.

For as nauseated as we are now, just keep reminding yourself, every loss gets us closer to kumar rocker in the next draft!
The latest that I have heard about him is that he is projecting as a reliever.

A 30 year old cast off from the Mets, Mazza in his 9 appearances in the majors has yet to give up a dinger. He also had a very small dinger percentage during his time in the IL.

He could be our savior. If not, there's still thousands of dumpsters the SOX haven't checked out yet.

It's been over a week since I watched a game.

I expected bad, but this is a level of bad that I have never witnessed.

True. I was expecting bad and hoping to be proven wrong, but this is not what I meant by being proven wrong

SOX should definitely keep X-man and Verdugo. Everyone else on this current team is expendable.

I'd add Devers and Chavis to that, but I agree

Posted
Perhaps, but they should definitely keep VAZ. He's a quality catcher. But that's it.

Duh, I totally forgot about him

The SOX could probably get some decent pitcher in a trade for Devers. There's really few players not on my keeper list that any other team would have much interest in. Workman and J.D. might get us something. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER
