You're right, no reason to waste Moreland's ridiculous clutch hitting get in the way of progress.

I with you. A perfect platoon player with Chavis or Daqlbec at first and cheap. He probably can only help us in 2021 but still a tough guy to loose.

Moreland’s production this season may bring back something of value in a trade. Solid glove, has been great this season starting against Righties, has some pop, and can be a defensive replacement days he doesn’t start. He is not the future so if you can get something of value you need to move him.

He could be a 2021 interim player to platoon with one of our 1st base prospects. He also could do designated hitting and be a plus in the clubhouse as we are headed towards a younger lineup. Besides, he is a low cost player when you consider his production. He is not a long term foundation player but just might keep us reasonably competitive as the team is building toward the future.

I completely agree. Moreland is the exact type of player to keep as a 'fill in' to keep a team competitive while rebuilding. I understand the rationale behind trading him if the deal is right, but I really hope that he doesn't get traded.

The Sox probably should explore Moreland trade, but I doubt anything worthwhile materializes. I think action will be somewhat limited this deadline. The Sox should move Barnes and maybe they move JD. I don’t expect much else from them...

The Sox should be exploring trades and listening to offers for every player. There are some players who should not be traded unless there's an offer that just can't be refused. I have no idea what Moreland could get us in return, but I would want to feel like it's a clear 'win' for the Sox in order to move him.

I am not real thrilled about moving JD either, but again, I get the rationale for doing so.

Hard to do a full fire sale when you can only trade for players on another team's player pool.

Oh I doubt they have a full blown firesale. No one does that mid-season. There's just not enough time..

Ok, so Moreland has the same trade value as the illustrious Nick Pivetta or CJ Chatham. Doesn't it make more sense just to keep him around for this year and next? He's a good veteran presence. You're not going to get a whole lot for him.

You can’t trade for anyone not in the player pool.

Aren't they getting around that with the 'Player to be Named Later' deal?

It's unsure how that will be handled.

I agree with you 100%! Only trade 2 Bags if the deal is right.

Or wrong!! (Wrong for the other team, that is,)

He gone!

2 prospects from Padres, neither are pitchers though.

SAN DIEGO -- If it wasn't clear already, it should be after this weekend: The Padres are contenders. And they're going for it. San Diego acquired lefty slugger Mitch Moreland from Boston on Sunday morning in a deal that sent outfield prospect Jeisson Rosario and infield prospect Hudson Potts to

The #16 and 19 prospects for SD, so maybe they are in the top 400 overall.

Mitch Moreland was what was left of the Heart and Soul of the 2018 Red Sox. Eavoldi was too but the reality is that we have the PawSox 2021,2022,2023

Potts is a former first rounder who showed good pop as a 20 yr old in AA. 40 EBH in 107 games is really good. He has a lot of swing and miss in his game and likely needs to work on his eye, but his productivity at a high level at a young age is a good thing for the sox. Also, he possesses the one tool so coveted in today's game, power.

Rosario is a speedster with a very good eye. Known to be a contact hitter, he will hit the occasional HR. He posted a .370+ OBP in High A as a 19 yr old. My bet is he starts to steal more bases as he learns the art, but he did swipe 18 last year.

The fact that the sox got these two guys for Mitchey-2 bags is a steal. No pitchers, but the sox did well here.
