Henry wears them as well. That's my only point. You can't let ownership off the hook for getting themselves into financial trouble.

But I can hold accountable the people they entrust on those specific matters.

If you make a mistake at work, do you hold your boss accountable? (And, yes, normally, I eschew these "regular folk" comparisons. But we are not talking about players here.)

Did my boss review and approve my work? If so, then yes.

All I know is that it is a sad day when Sox fans are rooting for the team to lose and have the worst record in MLB. Well , that is not all that I know , I do know some other stuff , but it is sad.

I'm not sure fans are rooting for the team to lose. I think fans want to see some younger guys get some run so that we have a better idea what the future could look like.

Agreed.

No one wants the team to lose. The draft pick position doesn't bother me much, since there are rarely MLB slam dunk picks.

But on the other hand, if we get a preview of Dalbec and maybe find a good 2B through trial and error, that could be a good thing going forward...

But you still call it "your work"?

When I was CFO, if I reviewed a senior accountant's journal entry and approved it. Is it the senior accountant's fault if it's still wrong? Shouldn't I have corrected it or seen the mistake. Yes, the senior accountant made a mistake, but I was supposed to be the one reviewing and approving that work. It's still their work, but it'd still be MY mistake.

Dalbec is being underutilized. Devers is not a long term 3b and Dalbec is said to have a slick glove.

I haven't heard "slick." I've heard average with a strong arm.

THe bottom line is which arrangement is best defensively.

Devers has shown to be very capable at 3B, but he also goes through periods of being error-prone. Dalbec is a good defender with a strong arm, but he is also the taller player who in theory should have the better stretch at 1B.

I could see either alignment. But first, Dalbec has to hit enough to make this type of decision relevant...

And where does that stop? Dombrowski wasm't the GM. He was the President who also took on repsonsibilities of the GM. In a normal hierarchy. the GM reports to the Team President, but DD took both those roles.

Sure, Henry approved his money, but he also hired Dombrowski to make those decisions because he trusted him to some extent. I would imagine Dombrowski essentially pitched or sold or had some sort of presentation as to why these were necessary signings, and they simply dd not turn out that way. I suppose I could fault Henry for not seeing the flaws that were obvious, considering I posted the ones for Price and Eovaldi on this board at the time of the signing, and was correct on both counts. And I am hardly any sort of prophet. I viewed it as being akin to telling a man in the path of a tidal wave that he was going to get wet...

Red Sox fans are always rooting for what they think is best for the team and its future. This year, unfortunately, that means losing as many games as possible. Sort of a lost year. Next year will be better. Sale should be back at some point next year, and Bloom, who I think will do a good job of rebuilding, will have a year under his belt.

I don't think any fans, outside of maybe a miniscule %, root against the team while they're playing.

Taking consolation from the future benefits of a bad record, that's a different story.

Next season, we already hope to have back three new SPs with 0 IP in Boston this year in Rodriguez, Sale and Pivetta. That's a good start in fixing one of the biggest flaws on this team.

Next up - a few decent relief pitchers. (Hopefully!)

Most of us knew this was going to be horrific from Day One. We took consolation in 1) fewer games of this monstrosity thanks to a pandemic-shortened season and 2) there might be some ancillary benefits down the road...

I am ot rooting for them to lose, but I am expecting it nightly.

Where they draft appears to be up for debte and the worst record might not be as advantageous in this regard as it would be in a normal season. And really, picking 1st vs, say 7th probably makes very little difference in this draft. Not like there is any sure thig waiting to be taken overall #1...

I am not sure that the draft will be a normal draft in terms of the worst team picking first, because the season is so short. MLB may modify this somehow.

I want them to win. It just eases the pain of a loss to say "well, they may as well suck" after another bad showing.

That's the plan.

Also, it may be another shortened draft as they begin to "right size" the MiLB structure. (This is me gagging on my dunkies.)

We might get more than 34 IP from Eovaldi, too, but counting on that would be a mistake.

Our pitching staff is absurdly bad.

Our best WHIP, this year, is Perez at 1.274 and Valdez at 1.286. All the others, still on the team, except for Eovaldi are over 1.35.

All but Valdez have an ERA over 4.50!

I think it might be time to move Eovaldi into the bullpen, possibly as the closer. He just flat out lacks the durability to be a starter...

I still don't get it. If Manfred somehow lets 2019's finish affect the next draft order, then he'd better force the Nationals to chip a few diamonds out of their World Series rings and give them to this year's winners.

Henry is at fault for hiring Dombrowski in the first place.

I'm not sure what Sox fans you're talking about, but I'm still holding out hope for going on that incredible 20-2 run and making the playoffs.

To me, it was more about not giving Ben one more year than hiring DD.

When is the last time we had the first overall draft pick.

As far as I know, never.

We had #3 in '67 and haven't been above #7 since.
