Now that players are starting to arrive, I figured starting a thread about general ongoings of the team (not Mookie, not manager, not investigation, etc.) would be nice.

Good morning from the Fort. Quite a few players arrived over the weekend, Christian Vazquez among them.

The Red Sox coaches are coming in today. Roenicke, Hyers, Goodwin, and Bjornson among them.

i havent been since 2003 ST. it was a freaking BLAST though. you should reach out and meet up with S5 and A7. i think they both go to pretty much all the games at the Fort. would be awesome to hoist some beers and talk s***. one of these years i will get back down there myself...

I usually hit a few different venues.

 

Last year I went to the Phillies, Tigers, Cardinals, Red Sox and Yankees facilities. Got an autograph from Gleyber Torres outside the Cardinals complex.

Dewey will be at Fort Myers for the duration of Spring Training. This year, I will be there at the beginning for a week. Last year, Iortiz, Dewey and I took in a couple of games together. It was a lot of fun. I missed out on seeing John Tudor last year. He is friends with the guy who sits behind Dewey. Drop us a line when you get there if for nothing more than to say hello.

i am of the feeling we should go the complete opposite. we should market the hell out of jeter and do all we can for the kid to have an awesome career. in 10 years when someone says "jeter" the first person i want them to think of is Downs in a Red Sox cap. derek will become an afterthought......r2spect.

I think Downs will be in Boston by mid-summer. They just gave him a locker between Moreland and JD in Fort Myers. Descriptions in scouting reports and his projections offensively and defensively remind me a little of Starlin Castro. Not Robbie Alomar, but a four-time All-Star and .280 bat wouldn't be so bad for one year of Mookie.

A clarification about the position of Jeter Downs’s locker in the Red Sox clubhouse, currently between JD Martinez and Mitch Moreland - the placement was partly for the sake of expediency, in a Red Sox clubhouse that has more players (65) than any spring in memory.

The Sox assigned Downs the one open spot in their clubhouse. But while there’s benefit to his proximity to vets, he’s likely to be moved if, for instance, the team signs OF Kevin Pillar.

Chris Sale has been dealing with the flu that turned into a mild case of pneumonia during the last week and a half. Roenicke talked to him on the phone today, and said “he feels really good.” Sale will be re-evaluated on Friday.
